Product description ------------------- What is Giardia? Giardia is a tiny parasite that lives in the intestines of various animals. What are the symptoms of Giardia?Giardia can cause diarrhoea, vomiting, , poor condition or even death. However, many infected animals show no symptoms. How do animals contract the infection? Giardia is passed in the faeces of animals in the form of a cyst that is resistant to many environmental extremes. Your pet might get infected by: Being in contact with infected faeces from another animal Rolling and playing in contaminated soil Licking its body after contact with a contaminated surface (for example, a dirty litter box or dog cage or crate) Drinking water from a contaminated creek, pond, or other body of water Young pets, like puppies and kittens, have a higher risk of illness than adult dogs and cats. How do I perform the Test? It is very simple - just use the enclosed cotton swab to obtain a faecal sample, mix it with the test solution and then add 3 drops to the test cassette. You will then be able to read the results after 5 minutes. The best time to test is during the shedding phase and/or when the symptoms appear. If tested outside this time period, you may get a false negative result. What should I do if I get a positive result? You must see your Vet immediately so that he/she can start ASAP. Limitations of the Test Please note that this is an acute phase screening test. In the life history of giardia , there are two different stages of development; trophozoite and cysts. Generally speaking, cysts exists in formed faeces and trophozoite exists in watery faeces with diarrhoea. This kit is used for detecting of giardia at the trophozoite stage.
