"Yes! Anything to live. Anything! As he pleaded with the stranger in his mind, the stranger smiled."
Tremendous mix of elements including secrets of the Catholic Church, the dark prophecy of the Midnight Sun, and voodoo priests surrounding an epic battle between the Hunters of the Purifying Fire (church warriors) and the demon Nosferatu. Christian, one-time Roman legionnaire turned vampire, reminds me in many ways of the character Casca by Barry Sadler as he looks to end the reign of vampire leader, Drako, and redeem himself for wrongs committed against others. Many other complex characters and historical sidelights are entwined with multiple story lines adding to the depth of the book, together with passages that really grabbed me like "If you ever see eyes like these again, I suggest you run" , "He had six shots in the .38. And he no longer had a son. What did anything matter..." and "You don't know what it's like once you've tasted life again." Midway thru I'm knowing I want to read more from this author and having visited his website and realizing he coauthored with Clive Cussler I'm now realizing why I enjoyed this thriller so much. Only let down was coming to the close and knowing this story was going to be followed by a sequel because for me it was truly a great read. Excellent!

Be careful here
This is a typically well written adventure by graham. But it's about angels and demons. So be careful as you read it that you don't get sucked onto the dark side. If you're a believer in Christ you know demons and angels exist, but you're safe from demons pocessing you, as the Holy Spirit protects you. Enjoy the story but beware of the danger. Yes, I'm going to read the next book because the adventure doesn't in this one. So prepare to read 1 or 2 more if graham doesn't end it in volume 2.

Fairly decent paranormal read
In the beginning, the short chapters introduce many characters that are seemingly unrelated. But then they begin to weave together and the story becomes interesting. Christian, creature of the dark, becomes the hero of the story with a speckled past. Kate Pfiefferle is the tenacious FBI agent who crosses paths with him in search for answers to numerous strange murders. Drake is the nosferatu villianous monster that is the object of Christian's wrath. The involvement of the church and the ending in New Orleans adds interest and a nice backdrop for the special events that transpire due to the midnight sun. If you like mysteries and paranormal fiction, you will find this intriguing. The only thing I find disturbing, is that the ending definitely leaves you hanging so that you know a sequel is pending.

Shadows of the Midnight Sun, Book 1 of Shadows Trilogy.Graham did it again! A brilliant/great novel on supernatural and mystery. A gripping and never ending suspense. This novel has more depth than "Twilight".A fight between Good and Evil! Strong characters starting with Drake and Christian from 396 AD to the present day. Christian's life is hollow, meaningless and empty but follows the forces of good; looking for the cure to the curse, waiting for salvation/redemption and the prophecy while Drakes' is the opposite whose intention is destroy the church and power over everything. The structure of the novel is straightforward. Graham Brown manipulated the plot expertly and deftly. This book keep me up past my bedtime, 1:50 am. Cannot put it down.Am excited for the next two books. Shadows of the Dark Star, Book 2Shadows in the Blinding Light, Book 3The author promised a "pretty cool and harrowing transformation". Hey, Graham, am expecting a romance between Christian and Kate!

a bit of good, vampires
From the opening page, I was hooked. It doesn't get more interesting than a bit of evil, a bit of good, vampires, paranormal and The Vatican church mixed into the plot. Love the Christain Hannover character...complex and interesting .Drake, pure evil but I found myself feeling a bit sorry for him at times. Kate, the FBI agent who gets involved in the whole mess thruigh no fault of her own. I've read the first 2 books and was completely surprised when I turned the page at the end of the books....and there was no more story! Look forward to the 3rd book. I hope it's out!!! You won't want to miss these books.

a great beginning to a new trilogy
Having been a fan of Graham Brown's writing, I looked forward to reading this book that he wrote with Spencer J. Andrews that is described as a supernatural thriller. What a terrific book, it starts out immediately with major action and introductions to great and well-written characters. The storyline builds at a great pace, and the writing is smooth, visual and very compelling. The history that weaves throughout the storyline is very well researched and presented, I was intrigued at how well the authors took some basic history going back to the Roman Empire and early Christianity and added their own historical suppositions to make a hard-to-put down and exciting mystery and adventure--the ending is such that it is a fine book to read on its own, but why do that when the talented authors promise 2 more books to come? Really looking forward to more.

Excellent
I loved this book to death. One of my all time favorites. When I purchased the book I was quite curtain I was going to like it and I was correct.Couldn't put it down! The mixture of religion and the supernatural made it a very unique book. There was a lot of action and a very interesting concept of vampires being the fallen one's.Even though the original one Drocos tried to repent and was not allowed to do so by the church. The story is a fresh take on an old theme and is hard to place into one genre.Overall it was an amazing read and I would highly recommend it.Five stars all the way!
