Seven years later, in 1891, Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife. After the death of his mother in 1909, Karl Elsener introduced the brand name Victoria and the iconic Cross and Shield emblem is registered as a trademark. With the advent of stainless steel, Karl Elsener coined the company’s name, Victorinox, by combining his mother’s name with “inox”, an abbreviation of the French word for rust-resistant steel, “inoxydable”. After World War II, the “Original Swiss Army Knife” began its successful progression around the world and enjoyed exceptional popularity. In 1989, Victorinox entered the timepiece business in the United States under the brand name “Swiss Army”. Ten years later, Victorinox joined the Travel Gear market, partnering with TRG Group in St. Louis. And in 2001, Victorinox fashion was introduced in the US to further capture the brand’s essence of practical luxury. In 2002, in order to promote global unity, the Victorinox Swiss Army timepiece brand was launched internationally. In 2007, Victorinox set up Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance AG, and in 2009 Victorinox Swiss Unlimited was launched. 2014 marks Victorinox Swiss Army’s 130th anniversary, and each Victorinox Swiss Army product embodies the spirit of the Legendary Original Swiss Army Knife, a universal symbol of Functionality, Innovation, Quality and Iconic Design.Brand ValuesFUNCTIONALITYOur Victorinox Swiss Army timepieces are designed to optimize their usefulness. What the Aerospace was meant to be....
All,This watch captures the spirit of the Aerospace watch better than the new Aerospace watches do. I know because I have the new Superquartz Aerospace with backlight on my wrist as I write this. The accuracy of the blessed Aerospace is incredible and it sure is purdy, but my "Poor man's aerospace" is only fast by two seconds a month when worn regularly, and for any purpose short of time travel that's probably close enough I figure. This new chrono classic is a solid piece of instrument which brings back something from the original Aerospace watches. The original Aerospaces used the same movement as this one in the chrono classic and is still in use on the Bell & Ross BR03-94 Type Aviation. (I have it too)But let's back up.....The original Aerospace watches were very straightforward instruments that did not cast a reflection unless you whoop's up and bought one with gold markers on the bezel which probably meant you were in business and marketing. The all-titainum finished variants that engineers bought were the embodiment of a subdued professional strictly business watch that was easy to read and did not glitter. They were perfectly seeable if you looked and didn't even cast a shadow on your wrist when you didn't (thin). They were time keeping instruments. Seeing the chrono classic makes you nod your head and say.......... yup.....this is where the Aerospace should go....well Breitling...........this is where you should go next with the Aerospace since apparently you muffed it the first time and turned a great instrument into jewelry. My new Aerospace is a little too fancy for my taste but its real accurate and it sure is purdy. (Think Forrest Gump) And this chrono classic from Victorinox which has the same movement that started the Aerospace and is still very accurate (sans time travel) will get me by until our friends at Breitling figure it out....B

Online images don't do it justice
I looked at plenty of online reviews and Youtube videos before commiting to this purchase, and I have to say that this watch is more beautiful in the flesh (so to speak) than those images convey! The watch surfaces are mostly brushed gunmetal coloured steel, with subtle polished areas around the bezel and body. It also seems somewhat slimmer than the dimensions would otherwise indicate, possibly due to the large face. Another thing not easily shown is the contrast between light and dark areas on the watch, the inverse LCD is deep black and fits in very well. I love the simplicity of the design too; it makes my Citizen Skyhawk-AT look very busy by comparison. All in all I've had this watch for twenty-four hours now and I already love it! Let's hope it proves durable... Amazon's delivery was excellent; I paid for UPS delivery as this was shipped from the US to the UK, and there were no hold-ups or issues with Customs and Excise or additional charges (I've had difficulties in the past using USPS and Parcel Force).

graduation present
I bought this watch for my son two years ago as a high school graduation present. After spending $800 on what I was hoping would be a watch to last him years, I have been severely disappointed it. It's been back to the manufacturer twice for repairs. It's overly complicated to set and the gun metal finish wears off easily. Stay away from this watch unless there's a clearance sale and you don't mind it breaking on you.

Not as good as it should be, lots of quirks, better options out there
I am a long time (nearly 20 years) Swiss watch fanatic. I own/owned Breitling, Omega, IWC, Doxa, Rolex, TAG Heuer, etc. This is my third Victorinox watch, the other two being a Victorinox Swiss Army Airforce Chronograph (no longer sold) and a Victorinox Divers Automatic 500m (still being sold).I found the quality of this watch to be lower than my other two, prior Victorinox watches.THE BRACELET is ... bad. The links are held together with a low quality split push-pin, far below the standard Swiss bracelet quality. The clasp, although double folding with push buttons, comes open accidentally. I FOUND THE BRACELET IMPOSSIBLE TO ADJUST TO THE RIGHT SIZE. This is often true of bracelets that do not have a clasp with "micro-adjustment" built in, but this bracelet in particular was poorly designed in that the "half links" are still pretty large. Finding the "goldielocks" size will be hard for most people. ALSO NOTE WELL: the interhorn lug width is an odd 23mm, so putting this watch on a strap is not possible unless you are willing to either trim down a 24mm strap, or hunt (and hunt) for an ultra-rare 23mm strap.ABOUT THE DISPLAY: I've owned four (yes, 4) Breitling Aerospaces, and the inverse LCD display on this watch is of equal legibility. I would guess those other reviewers who are complaining do not realize that inverted LCD displays are inherently hard to read. Also, yes, the alarm is weak (same as with an Aerospace), and the crown as the sole controller is a little difficult to control (also same as with an Aerospace). You get used to it.YES the hands move A LITTLE if you bump the watch. That's true of all of my Aerospaces, too. It is what it is. I'd guess there's some slack in the gearing in the movement itself.THE SIZE is silly-large. On my wrist right now is a 44mm Breitling (superocean chrono II) and it seems SMALLER than this Victorinox. When I put the Victorinox on my wrist, it looked ridiculous. Unless you have ape-sized wrists, or like looking kind of silly, don't get this watch. There are better analog-digitals at this price point. Raymond Weil makes one (the RW Sport 8400-ST-20001) that has an updated -- and far more functional-- Swiss anadig movement in it. Also, if you can stand the silver rectangle around the lower display (I find it hideous), the TAG Heuer CAF1010.BA0821 Aquaracer Chronotimer is another nice option. If you can find one, the discontinued Omega Seamaster 120 Multifunction is a great watch. But if you want a "poor man's Aerospace," go get a used Aerospace. You can get one at this price point (see sales corners on [...] and [...]) and it is a far, far better value for your money.Bottom line: I returned this watch to Amazon after 24 hours.
