Works so good I bought two more.....
This review is a combined review for the PT12 model and the Pro, I purchases the PT12 back in 2015 because I wanted a accurate instant read thermometer but based on my use case I couldn't bring myself to spend the $100 on a Thermoworks (although I thought long about it...). This seemed like a good substitute for the price point so I went with it. I'm glad I did, as it quickly out performed the CDN device that I was using, as well as other thermometer gadgets around the house. After making sure that it was accurate (boiling water test) I found it to be much faster than those other devices, and more accurate, taking anywhere from 3-5 seconds to come within a degree or two of the food temp, and then another 5 seconds or so to to level out at the final temp. Not really instant, but good enough for my uses. And once the probe/sensor is "warmed up" (meaning its not starting from 60 degrees) subsequent checks go much faster (like when you're moving from burger to burger or steak to steak on the grill). The small size made it perfect for having in a pocket and the built in magnet makes it easy to store on the fridge or side of the grill. Overall I was so happy with this that I purchased a second one (one to keep by the grills, one for the kitchen), and was equally satisfied with that purchase. So much so, that when the original went missing for several months (it eventually turned up) I went to purchase a third one. By this point Lavatools had introduced their Pro model, so I went with that one. Again, happy I did, as this model was a worthwhile upgrade to the PT12's. Much faster return on food temps, providing a temp within 2 seconds and leveling out at 5. Much closer to what I would expect an instant read to perform. The large display, backlight and longer probe are great additions. It's certainly much beefier feeling than its little brother, but not so that its cumbersome or clumsy to use.All in all I'm very pleased by these purchases and would highly recommend them for the products that they are, in this price point. And, of course, the Amazon experience in researching, purchasing and delivery of these was also great

Perfect thermometer!
I have bought one for every friend I have, that's how much I love them!! Works perfectly every time, instant read is well instant. The battery life is forever! And it's magnetic so it can stay on the side of your fridge or range for convenience of use.

Good meat thermometer
This is my 4th one. 2 got dropped too many times. One given as a gift, and then this one. It's fast, it's accurate, and the price is great. I use it for determining meat temperature, so I don't need to be super precise. I don't care if it's .5 degree over 165, just need to know if it's 165. I use it pretty much daily, but I don't require extreme accuracy.

Great Thermometer Needs Instructions and Temperature Chart
It works well, has an easily-viewed, large readout screen, measures fast, has a strong magnet on the back so it lives securely on the 'fridge, and has an ample hole to insert a lanyard, if desired. Unlike a competitor's pen, this design makes this one easy to open. It has a long-lasting (supposedly) battery instead of a AAA, and I feel a little safer knowing I don't have a AAA battery in there over a heat source. The packaging was a pretty, clear container worthy of gift-giving, but I would not want to store the thermometer there. My gripe is that this does not come with the extras the competitors have, has a somewhat narrower temperature range than some, and it has a troubling little sticker on the back that reads, "CAUTION. Do not expose device to extreme heat, especially in hot grills. Always measure food away from heat." Um, I thought measuring the temperature of food on the grill or in the pan was the objective. Are they saying this is not designed to handle the heat of a grill even briefly? Are they saying the temperature reading will be inaccurate if taken on the grill or pan because heat from below will distort the reading? Are they saying the entire unit will melt if I test doneness while the meat is still on the grill? This inquiring mind wants to know. Arrrrgh! So maddening! My unit came with no instructions whatsoever, even on the packaging, other than this sticker, which poses more questions than it answers.Several competitors include a temperature chart for various meats. Some even helpfully print one right on the device; I'm so jealous! I really wish this had come with something like that, or at least a website that had the info so I could print it out. It pays to do a little internet research on the question, however, since meat keeps cooking after you take it off the heat. Therefore, if you cook to the ideal doneness, your meat temperature may be a less-than-perfect 15-20 degrees higher by the time the meat makes it to your diner. Online, various food writers have tested this for different meats. Ultimately, I'll make up my own chart from these sources and my experience, but it would have been nice if this tool had come with a temperature chart I could use as a knowledge base. Just sayin'!

Excellent design! Works fast! IP65 water protection!
After going through two failed AcuRite thermometers in the past few years, I decided to try something new—and I'm really glad I stumbled on this one. The first thing I love about it is that it has no buttons. It turns on when the thermometer is extended and turns off when it is closed. It seems like a no-brainer design now that I've used it, but I've been used to using a totally unnecessary on/off button. Second, the Fahrenheit/Celsius button is locked away in the battery compartment where it can't be accidentally triggered. Unless you have a need to quickly switch between the two, this is yet one less button to accidentally press. The two things I like most about this is how fast this thermometer is. The first time I used it, I couldn't believe how much faster it was than the AcuRite I've been using. Second, it has IP65 water resistance—which is *so* great for making sure I don't ruin the thing with a splash of water or cleaning (which I did with at least one previous thermometer).
