Send Away The Tigers

Awesome
I'm not one of those fans that likes everything that the Manics do (I have hardly listened to Lifeblood since I rushed out and bought it on the basis of hearing the Nixon song a coupla times) but this album is very very good.It has all the maturity of the Manics recent stuff but with a lot more umph reminiscent of The Masses Against the Classes and can be rightly compared to The Holy Bible released over a decade ago. A plus point of this album in comparion to the Bible is that you can understand what's being sung. Most of the vocals were so roughly produced on the Bible it was a real shame as musically it is probably their high point and at that point James still sang in a real Welsh accent which I think is great (being from Wales myself). The collaboration with the lead singer of the Cardigans is an absolute gem and so catchy I was singing it to myself after one listening and I love the reference to 'You Stole the Sun from My Heart' from This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours. This album has not left my car since I bought it. I have been telling people to buy it even if they don't really like the Manics because it is going to be one of the best albums released this year.

Quality rock music dealing with depression
Firstly, let me say that the cover is brilliant. On the surface it looks quite glam, but then a bit of thought suggests a subtext. The bridge in the background may well be the bridge Richie Edwards jumped off (former band member) and the "angel" and "demon" (well, technically fairy and devil) represent despression/moods.And thats just the cover. The lady in blue is interesting too- a Polish astronomy student- and they also perform "Autumn song" in an alternative video.Anyway- the music! The title track takes it's name from a Tony Hancock quote, about using drink to banish his depression- the lyrics rock along, but are meaningful- Send away the tigers, because we're lonely and we're desperate. A great song. Powerful stuff. Play loud, send away your own tigers. The 3rd track is a collaboration with the singer from the Cardigans, and it workers well. The 7th track Autumnsong is quite possibly about Richie Edwards too- wear your eyes as dark as night..... Antoher song that is much deeper than it seems. There is also a wonderful cover of Lennon's "Working Class Hero" at the end. Top notch album. The tracks are all decent too- I like Rendition, about the illegal US/UK renditions of terror suspects.Five stars, well worth it.

Just when we thought it was all over
Well if an album gets a 10 year anniversary edition its defo worth seeking out the original CD for a couple of quid ...was a manics fan in the 90s but gave up on them after 2001s Know Your Enemy ..... this particular album reminds me a bit of Everything Must Go ( not a bad thing ) full of big tunes Indian Summer,Your Love Alone Is Not Enough,Send Away The Tigers and Autumn Song all great tunes ...the band followed this album up with a return to their other 90s classic The Holy Bible with Journal For Plague Lovers also worth checking out

Lightweight and Cheesy, but a Rolocking Ride!
As many others have commented, this album is a collection of pop anthems with often questionable lyrics. However, I dare anyone not to find it an uplifting and joyous experience; you'll be tapping your feet and rushing to find the cigarette lighters to wave around.Typically with Manics recordings, it sounds like the lads were singing in the bathroom with the mics outside in the garden - terrible quality. But in the car or gym, played loud, who cares! Enjoy, and careful with that swaying :-)
