Gone Are The Days

Solid Western in the classic mold
Finally, a western not masquerading as an idiotic Marvel action flick a la the recent "Magnificent Seven"...slowly crafted, strong characters and probably more what the west was actually like than half of the drivel that passes for westerns these days. Lance Henriksen is brilliant as a broken down outlaw fighting to redeem a worthless life and Meg Steele is a delight, hadn't seen her since "Boardwalk Empire", nor had I seen Steve Railsback in a while (watch "Stuntman" to know how good he was back in the day). Henriksen's journey through the dying days of the west is fun to watch, and I love the pacing of it...like a good book the story unfolds before your eyes, not slamming you in the face with a bunch of exposition and action sequences hiding bad character development. People who say it's slow probably think Johnny Depp's "Lone Ranger" or Will Smith's "Wild, Wild West" are classic westerns. This film is a real throwback to classic film and TV western's, and the ending (bet almost no one has watched the post-credits scene) has some very interesting implications. Really enjoyed this one, and if you know who I'm named after, you will too...

NOT FOR SHOOT EM UP LIKERS
iT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE i WATCHED A B RATED WESTERN SO I CHOSE THIS ONE FROM THE POSITIVE REVIEWS. iTS ABOUT AN ELDERLY OUTLAW WHO IS NEAR DEATH PLANNING ONE LAST TRIP INTO TOWN TO FIND HIS UNKNOWN DAUGHTER OR TO ROB A BANK ? HIS UNKNOWN PARTNER KEEPS SHOWING UP TO GOAD HIM FOR THE HEIST. SUPERB ACTING FROM LANCE HENRIKSEN ( ALIENS, TERMINATOR ) HE MADE EVEN ME FEEL OLD . ALTHOUGH A BIT UNEVEN AND CRUDELY SHOT I LIKED THIS HOMAGE TO THE OLD WEST>>>>>>>>>

Just another copied plot you've seen before - Re-runs as it were
Once you get past all the cough syrup drinking the story kinda makes sense. If you saw "Alien" then you might not recognize the main actor at the very beginning - just hang in there it will come to you. T. B. gets a token role just to round out an otherwise hackneyed plot. Its really a 2**** but gave it a 3**** for old times sake... Watch "Open Range" if you want to see some really good western action although it gets a little bit brutal in places.

Superb Cinematography and Acting--A Slow, Reflective Look at a Life Not-So-Well Lived. Loved it.
This is a character driven, artistically formulated movie. It reminded me of "Unforgiven" with Clint Eastwood. It definitely takes it's time. But Lance Henrikson is so watchable that the time is worth it. This is not a "shoot 'em up" Western. The pace is contemplative in nature, which fits both the title and the main character's place in life. It's a thoughtful look at a man haunted by the past, and wanting to make at least one thing right before he dies. I loved the redemptive nature of the plot and the reality of the choices we all make. I highly recommend this if you are a person who wants to think, feel, and pay attention. Oh, and the cinematography and acting is superb. It's a refreshing change from all the loud, cynical, crazily-paced action movies currently bombarding us. Gone Are The Days -

There are no words ...
The five star reviewers and the people that found those reviews helpful obviously are crew members for this movie. When you hear how great the cinematography is and how wonderfully slow the story develops, you know there is a problem. You can just fast forward until Tom Berringer appears. All that happens up to that point is some sick guy that is upset about some woman getting hung survives and manages to make it into town. His companion up to that point and the dialogue add no value to this movie. Once he gets to town his hooker daughter seems eager to have sex with her 75 year old father so she can earn a dollar. I only knew she was his daughter from reading the box the dvd came in. After that, there is some moderately OK action. The end is dumb because why threaten to arrest a guy you know is going to die in the next five minutes.Definitely not worth $3.74 - or a plugged nickel for that matter. Sad really.

PROFANE LANGUAGE & some EXTREMELY inappropriate physical contact in movie.
UNFORTUNATELY the folk who wrote/produced/directed think it's socially acceptable to permit an actor to use the F___-word in this movie and also permit some (Few) very suggestive and vulgar actions between the female and her 'keeper' of sorts.(Man's hands on woman's clothed breasts)AND this movie is described as a man 'making amends' for his younger life now that he's near the end of his days. (Spoiler alert) Well, golly, in just what realm is it OK to rob a bank to help one's illegitimate offspring (product of Fornication!) start a new life. THAT is making amends? Guess the poor ignorant writer will be spending some REALLY Bad days in the here-after. Photography and other aspects of this movie were pretty good for the genre depicted.Lance (Main character) is quite convincing and genuine in his portrayals of a sick old cowboy/fornicator/bank-robber/absent-father. It's just SO disappointing that 'CRAP' must be inserted in order to achieve a certain rating or appease a certain base instinct. I could never recommend such a movie. Wish there were better labeling by producers when searching titles.

Old School real plot Western.
Some reviews say slow moving. And that’s a plus for me. Story line is solid and does not need constant intense action to make it watchable. Good western!
