A Decade with Tigers: Supremacy. Solitude. Stripes

I have known Shivang as a great photographer and a writer for several years now. I have mostly spent time with him in India and Africa during my Photo Tours. Therefore, when he told me about this book, I was curious to get a copy to read about his experiences with tigers over a decade. The cover photograph was familiar tome since I had seen it on his Facebook page. I got the book from Amazon last week and over the weekend, I read it from front to back.Here are few things that struck me as I progressed with the book reading. I liked the ease with which Shivang has expressed his feelings, thoughts and observations. They all are nuanced with intricate details about some of these iconic and famous tigers across Indian forests. The chapter on Ranthambore's tigress captured my attention the most. I almost felt that I was reading her biography. Shivang through his writing came across to me as a sensitive human being, shy just like a tiger but someone who has experience, wisdom and deep passion for animals.Since I know him a little bit, I know he truly is the way he comes across through this book. He does not talk a lot. He is a man of few words but he cares for nature. That aspect of his personality comes through as one progresses with the book. The photographs in the book are exquisite. They showcase the personalities of these tigers. I am sure that was one of the intents behind those photographs as well.The other very interesting thing about the book is that it showcases to a lot of readers (who might know about tigers) that a tiger is a gentleman, very powerful but will not simply intrude. He is a solitary animal and has grace. Such a majestic creature needs to be protected. The message is subtle! In fact, not spoken in so many words but makes a reader feel that way.After reading his book and after checking out those photographs, the first emotion that triggered in my mind was "I need to do whatever it takes to protect this majestic animal."Shivang's writing is flawless, the stories are narrated with ease and the pictures that go with each story contribute in a big way to the content of the story as well as his style of storytelling.Shivang congratulations on this book. Your book will enlighten people about Tigers for sure and even if they used it as a coffee table book, the pictures would captivate a reader.

This book is a result of passion and hard work put in by Shivang Mehta ... many of the pictures include habitat and action which is so great as it shows that the photographer is noticing all the different moods of the subject and the surroundings ... a break from tigers is welcomed by the rest of the fauna and habitat showing that the photographer is not just tiger centric ... some artistic pictures are included showing incredible eye he has developed ... the might males I really liked as it shows why this cat is so majestic and big ... the tiger reserves he has mentioned .. I know how much he has roamed in those parks and now this book does justice to those incredible stories he had witnessed and now penned! ... last but not the least, the photographers/wildlifers who have left their comments or fore-wording/after-wording are all top notch in their field and all coming out to endorse this book shows that it is actually a celebration of this photographer's work!

I bought this boot as a gift for my son who is an enthusiast in big cats.As it has lots and lots of photographs, and simple to understand narration.He absolutely love the book.Awesome photography!!!!

Received the book couple of weeks back. Simply excellent. Just could not put it down the moment I started reading it. Written text is very absorbing..... So many interesting stories around tigers, tigresses and their cubs...... Photographs in the book are "out of this world" kind. Will preserve it among my most loved books. Highly recommend having a copy to every wildlife lover, photographer and anybody who is even slightly interested in wild life.

Brilliant tiger stories... well written! Amazing images and wonderful story telling. The book is easy to carry. Production quality could have been better. Such powerful imagery deserves better printing. Shivang Mehta is a magician with light as I have been following his work for years now and the print doesn't do justice to his skills and talent. Looking forward to a new version with better printing.

Excellent read. The pictures and stories compliment each other very well. It makes you feel that you are witnessing the events yourself with Mr. Shivang Mehta :)A must buy for anyone who loves the forests in India.

Always knew about Shivang Mehta as one of India's finest photographic talents. This book showcases what a master story teller he is. The Bandhavgarh and Ranthambhore chapters are just awesome
