REVISED: AMAZING Customer Service, Quality Product.
Instead of just returning this to Amazon and trying another product, I decided to contact the company. They were AMAZING!!! They immediately identified the problem, asked me for the batch number, and quickly sent out a new timer that worked perfectly. They even gave me a few tips on how to pry open the back cover and said to enjoy the original broken timer if I was able to get the back cover off. Their tips work and so we have a backup timer (albeit one without a sturdy battery cover) I would definitely buy from this company again based on the customer service along but the timer is great as well. It is easy to set and hear when it goes off. The red is easy to see from a distance and my 2 year old daughter loves checking to see if the "Red is gone yet." The handle is great for moving the timer around and it seems sturdy enough although we have not dropped it yet.Original Review: Unfortunately the screw in the back would not come out so that we could put a battery in so the timer was useless. Going to try a different brand.

I absolutely LOVE it!
Just got my Time Timer Plus today and the verdict is... I absolutely LOVE it!!! 10 stars!!I had spent quite some time researching all kinds of timers on Amazon before I decided on this one. My original search was for a "Pomodoro" type timer, as this was the recommended time management technique I wanted to follow. However, after looking at lots of tomatoes, chickens, eggs, and other critter-shaped kitchen timers and reading all kinds of reviews I steered away from the mechanical timers. I discovered that most of them (if not all) are making a "ticking" sound when counting down, which could be very annoying and distracting, especially when you are trying to concentrate on your work. Then I looked at a bunch of digital timers and read lots of reviews on those. But digital timers display... well... digits, and don't give you a clear and instant at-a-glance realization of how much time has elapsed and how much time you've got left, especially for a "visual" kind of person (I am one). You have to stop and "process" in your mind what those digits mean. Plus, it becomes almost a part-time job constantly setting it all up and resetting it if you want to follow the "Pomodoro" technique, which is (25 minutes work + 5 minute break) x 4 = 1 cycle, and you do several of these cycles per day... You'd need to push the 'minutes' button until you've set the desired number of minutes, then push the 'seconds' button to set the seconds, and after the time is up and you want to set it for a 5 minute break (per "Pomodoro" technique), you'll need to re-set and re-push all those buttons again, and then, after a 5 minute break, repeat all the button-pushing to set it up for another 25 minute period of work, and on and on... PLUS, a lot of the reviews I read mentioned that those digital timers had a very loud and unpleasant "shrill" when the time is up. Again, not something you'd want to hear multiple times a day every day (if you do "Pomodoro").And THEN I found this one. And what a beauty it is! :-) The size (I got a 7 inch one, but there are also 3, 8, and 12 inch ones) is small enough to sit on your desk and large enough to glance at from a distance when you're taking a break. It's an "analog" type clock face (my kind of clock), but there are no hands. Instead, a red area that magically disappears as the timer counts down gives you an instant and very visual recognition of how much time you've got left. It is absolutely silent, and only at the end it gives you 4 "beep-beep" sounds. You can adjust the loudness of this beep sound, or even make it completely silent, on the back panel. The timer needs 1 AA battery (not included). There is no on/off switch and it's not intended for you to take the battery in and out (the battery cover is secured with a screw). So the timer just "lives" with the battery in it, like a regular clock or flashlight or CD player would. All it takes to "operate" it is to turn the knob in the center of the clock face to adjust the "red area" to your desired time (up to 60 minutes). Then you just let go and the timer is already working. You see time elapsing "with a quarz watch precision" as the red area takes less and less of the clock face and finally disappears into the "zero".Bottom line: PERFECT for time recognition and time management, from kids to grown-ups! (Now my husband wants one for himself, too!)

Great for virtual school
I bought this to keep my 5th grader on track with her work while she does school virtually. It's a great size and the handle is nice to carry it from room to room. She easily sets the timer to keep track of reading and time on other activities. You can turn the sound on if your child needs an extra reminder or off if your child is sound-sensitive. She does sometimes move the timer to give herself more time for preferred activities, but that is not the timer's fault :)Update:Timer stopped working after about 1.5 years of use. I’ve had others for work that I bought before this one that are still going strong. Disappointing. I tried changing the battery several times and it just does not reliably run anymore. I’m sure it’s just a defect of this particular one.

Helpful
Simple to use and reset. Great for keeping me on task. Actually increases focus because you don't have to think about the next item to do until the timer is up.
