The new Compost Genie Compost Bin is the PERFECT solution for getting rid of your smelly bowls and bags of compost that live in your fridge, freezer, or on your countertop. Our kitchen has no odor even after the compost has been sitting for days, and it keeps the fruit flies away! The bag is strong even though it is compostable (in certain facilities). I tested how well the bag would do with a whole week's worth of compost and the bag was fine. It was strong enough not to tear even after letting my spiky pineapple scraps sit for several days. This product is great if you have a compost facility nearby that accepts compost waste, or if you like to compost in your own yard. You can see my compost area in the attached picture for an idea of how we have been composting for years. I highly recommend this product over the countertop bins that are just too small. It definitely reminds me of the Diaper Genie we used to have a few years ago that kept our nursery from smelling!!

I really wanted to like this compost bin, or rather my wife really wanted me to like it, since she hates the simple plastic container under the counter I've been using for years - she says it stinks. But this product's design is horrible. I gave it several tries, thinking I was perhaps doing something wrong, like overfilling it. They claim it holds 3.6 gallons, up to 15 pounds of compost, but that is certainly not the case. When the bag gets a little full it bulges, and when you try to lift it out it rips open, dumping the compost into the bottom, and filling the "juice" tray. When that happens it also spills juice all over the rest of the bag roll in the bottom, ruining them - this happened to me twice. To make matters worse, you have to drag it outside, dump the spilled compost and THEN you have to reach down inside, grab the juice tray and lift it up. This is where I came to really HATE the product designer - the juice tray won't lift through the top hole, you have to tilt it to get it out, so guess what, it dumps juice all over the inside (and I learned this the hard way the first time, in my kitchen!). Once you get it out you have to disassemble the top and dump what little juice remains in the tray. At which point you're lucky if you haven't vomited. Now, I admit the first time I probably waited too long to empty the bag, having assumed their claims were accurate. So, the second time I was careful to (try to) empty it after just a week, when I didn't think it was overfull. As I lifted the bag through the undersized opening the side ripped out, dumping the contents all inside. And of course I left a trail of juice from the kitchen out the front door as I took it outside to clean up the mess. I hosed it off and left it on the back porch to air out, went back to my good old plastic container with a lid.I tried to return it, after about 6 weeks, but the Amazon site referred me to Compost Genie, who pointed me back to Amazon, so I'm in a do-loop at the moment, and none too happy. Do yourself a favor, avoid this product at all cost. The product designer needs to actually have to live with it, and clean up the mess he/she creates.

In theory, great product & accessories. In reality…not so much. The bags disintegrate way too fast for a 2 person household. Went to take the bag out to start my first compost & as I lifted the bag out of the Compost Genie, EVERYTHING fell into a cat tray at the bottom that didn’t catch even a quarter of the mess!It was easy to clean the unit. But had to be outside with a hose, then mop up my floor (which I do NOT want to do every time it’s emptied)!The air freshener pack did the job. We never smelled a thing!

Love this compost can! My family hates using the little, countertop, container that our recycling company gave us. It's really inconvenient having to open it with both hands and make sure the bag isn't falling in. The compost genie is the perfect size to fit larger items like chicken bodies without having to keep it for so long that it starts to smell. Looks great in our white kitchen too!

This container is a nice size and looks nice. It is sturdy, but need to only fill about half way or it does tend to leak and bag tears. No odors. Easy to clean by taking outside and hosing out

I compost all kitchen scraps and coffee grounds so I was excited to have this in the kitchen- until I realized how cheap and flimsy the bags are. I ended up with composting scraps and leakage all over the kitchen floor. I have had to relocate it outside which defeats the purpose of having it. For the price- the bags should be of better quality but I guess that’s not as profitable is it?

I chose this from someone's Amazon wish list and boy were they happy. With the larger capacity, the compost doesn't have to go out as often, the lid seems to close snuggly no bugs.

We are a family of 4 and are heavy composters. The Compost Genie is a very sleek looking, sturdy bin with a perfect size for our needs. It was very easy to install. Another great plus is the quality of the compostable bags which come in a roll. As we filled one bag and took it out, the next one came right up. We did not have to yet, but the compost genie is very easy to move around and seems extremely easy to clean. Biggest plus: no smell, no leaks!
