Having acquired a block of buildings in Edinburgh, known as the Castle Silk Mills, the North British Rubber Company (which much later became known as Hunter Boot Ltd) was registered as a limited liability company in September 1856. In the beginning there were only four people working for the company, by 1875 the team had grown to 600 members of staff. Production of wellington boots was dramatically boosted with the advent of World War I, when the company was asked by the British government to construct a sturdy boot suitable for the conditions in flooded trenches. The mills ran day and night to produce immense quantities of these trench boots. More than a million pairs were made to cope with the Army's demands. The fashionable boot was now a functional necessity. Hunter's most famous welly, the original Green wellington, was made over 50 years ago in the winter of 1955. It was the first orthopaedic boot that they made and was launched alongside the Royal Hunter--another boot that remains in Hunter's range today. Today, Hunter remains the preferred welly brand for those who like to work hard and play hard--there's a great range of boots to suit welly wearers all over the world--from the Royal Family to festival-goers, working farmers and landed gentry alike. Fab wellies
Love my new wellies, fantastic colour, very comfortable and seem sturdy. Really pleased. The only downside is they are made in China!Hunter is a proudly British company, with by appointment prominently displayed on the box, surely it isnt beyond their capabilities to have wellingtons made in GB.

Genuine, good quality
Soft/supple, good quality, nice fit, maybe a little smaller than expected.

No excuses
I brought these for my wife, after a number of years putting off coming to watch me on the rugby field because she did not want to get her boots muddy, I have finally called her bluff. The boots are an excellent fit, and look to be well made, which I know they will be after having a number of pairs over the years myself, with the gloss finish it adds a little bit of glamour to a wet muddy Saturday afternoon.

Love these wellies
Bought these in size 7 in Graphite. Really nice colour, slightly more of a grey tint than the blue pictures but that's what I expected due to the colour description. I usually wear dark denim or black leggings so the colour of the boots really compliment this. I've ordered the tall hunter's elsewhere before but wasn't keen on the fit so returned them. The short style is so much better and less restricting on your leg movement! Really happy I finally have my Hunter's and at a great price too :) (I paid £43 when the RRP is £69) love these! The tall ones I ordered weren't gloss and I think the gloss wellies are much nicer. I can't wait for the rain! Also, I ordered these on the afternoon of the 17th July and they arrived late morning on the 19th July under super saver delivery so excellent delivery too!

Super wellies!
These wellies are perfect. I got the short version as I have trouble with wellies fitting my calves in my usual shoe size and these fit perfectly. The only thing I would say is that the colour is more green than turquoise, but colours on computer screens can be different to the real thing. The price was really competitive too.

Hunter short gloss wellies
Very prompt delivery & well packaged. Gorgeous , gorgeous , boots so I am very disappointed that these are so tight on the front/instep of the foot area & have to return them . If you have wide feet and wide calves as I do then I would probably advise against these. I could just get them on but I could hardly get them off , I thought they were stuck there for good! ( not funny at the time) I am going to try the huntress as I think they will be more suitable. Also there was absolutely no room to tuck jeans/ trousers in , so that was also a big negative for me. Hope this helps,

Check where the product is being shipped from
I bought the wellingtons for my wife but unfortunately they were a very tight fit around her calf muscles and would rub so we returned them. What we had not been aware of was that they were supplied by International Amazon so we had to pay for shipment back to Slovakia and pay import duties on the return. Needless to say a very expensive return and will be more careful of who is full filling the shipment in the future. The wellingtons themselves looked great and of good quality so the poor rating is related to the returns which cosy us over £40.00.
