Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico. The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches. The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality. One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you. See more

Great Watch
I was looking for a comfortable sports watch to replace a Bulova that just would not keep accurate time. I didn't want anything too big or heavy but also something that had a large enough display and is “shock” rated. This watch is perfect. It is very light, easy to read and the Indiglo option is easy to use and is great when needing to see the time in the dark. I’ve had the watch for over a month and it is keeping perfect time, is so light and comfortable that I forget I have it on. I have not had a chance to use all the options such as “Golf” which keeps score but it is easy to go through the various modes. There are various styles and options in the Ironman series to meet any specific needs you have.

It Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking!
I bought this watch to replace a problem Japanese made watch some time ago. This is an everyday watch that takes somewhat of a beating. I have owned some similar watches and the characters were hard to read at different angles, etc. Others were difficult to read using the internal light in the dark. Neither is the case with this watch. The unlit characters are black and bold which makes them easy to read from about all angles. By the same token, the characters are backlit in a green tint and very legible in the dark. This watch is also pretty intuitive regarding the setting of time, etc. I also was able to buy an extended warranty from Timex after the purchase. What a deal! If it does die at some point, I hope I can find the same model again. As John Cameron Swayze said all those years ago, "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." Uh-oh, I'm showing my age.

that was easy to read and to work
First off- this is a relatively inexpensive watch, so expectations should be modest. For me, I wanted a watch that I could run and bike with, that was easy to read and to work, and one that was rugged. I don't like too many features- as I don't tend to use them (a watch to track golf scores... really?). So a stopwatch, timer, light and perhaps an alarm- that's about it. Moon phases and GPS, not so much. This watch fits the bill- it is easy to read, the features support athletic activity, and it looks fine. But...When I unboxed it, the indiglo light did not work. Going on line, I found a number of similar reports of early indiglo failure. I returned the watch and got a replacement, which has been working for the past 24 hours. So why the 2 stars? Well, the illumination feature is important- the watch is only useful 12 hours a day without it- especially if you are not near artificial light. It is a big part of the brand, and it appears to be more than a one off problem.A second reason: the first watch arrived with the time and date correctly set (it was off by 3 hours, so it was set to Pacific, not Eastern time); the replacement watch was set to a random time in 2006. Which leads me to wonder whether the first watch had been returned by another buyer who had set the time and date and then returned it because of the indiglo problem. Hard to know whether this was just a coincidence, but I don't recall ever buying a (non-computer) watch or clock that arrived with the time and date set. This may or not matter to you- so draw your own conclusions.

Good looking watch, just a little too thick for me.
Case is too thick, not your typical Ironman. Case is built to withstand high shock/deep water but I never had issues in this regard on regular Flix or Ironman watches.... (who dives deeper than 200 feet or plays rugby with their watch on?)... not necessary. I've had many, many TImex watches and typically replace every 2-3 years like a lot of you. I do love their functionality and you don't need to be overly concerned if they're lost or break eventually. The layout on the face is well thought out, typical button functionality.

Exceptional work or dress watch.
Exceptional watch. I esp. like the heavy feel to the case - I don't worry about damages from my work. The dial face is easy to read even without my glasses. The newer style Indiglo is different, takes a little getting used to from the older style with a backlight. This one lights just the numbers and letters. Never was a big fan of the "plastic" watch bands, they usually cause skin irritation, but this one hasn't yet bothered me. It does have more options and functions that I really don't need, but for someone needing several alarms or different time zones, it offers 3 sets of each. Makes changing from Daylight Savings Time easy. This is the second one I purchased, just a few weeks apart. Wanted one for work, another for 'dressier' occasions. This one is more for 'dress' than work, with the all black coloration. My other one has a stainless steel 'brite" trim ring around the face and both silver and orange buttons. Both are the same model with just the trim color difference.

Start/Spit button may not be easy to press
Prefer it above G-Shocks - simple, clear form. Functionally - all it is necessary.Alarm clock is relatively low. Start/Spit button may not be easy to press.
