Great story
Penny Jordan at her best.I read this a long time ago in paperback,I still have a copy of it.It is one of her earlier books which I prefer to her later books. It was one of the ones detailed to be released on Kindle in June this year.I pre-ordered it along with others. Unfortunately it was not honoured along with about half of the others ordered without any explanations.A short time later I was asked to review the ones not received, the matter was passed on to the publishers I was told. I now live in hopeful anticipation that all these books will be released at a future date. I,m still unhappy about the way the matter was dealt with !!!!.

I still love this book after all these years
I remember sneaking this book (one of many that I snuck), from my mom when I was about 15 or so. In case you're wondering, yes that was a looong time ago! I recently ran across it again on Amazon while I was searching for another book and decided to buy it for nostalgic reasons, more than anything. However, after reading it again (after 20+ years), it is still the same great book that I remembered. You need to keep in mind that this book is from 1981/ 1982, so it is certainly nothing like the romance books/ novels that are written today. I still love to read Harlequin, but I have to admit that I don't find the "modern" romances as much to my liking.....maybe because I am getting older. That being said, I find that older Harlequin romance books just make for better reading. This is just my own personal opinion, so do what you will with it.Yes, the main male character in this story, Kieron, can be a jerk. But the main female character, Briony, has her share of hang-ups as well. She's hurt and angry because she thinks Kieron slept with her only because he wanted to get a newspaper story on an ex-roommate of hers. What she doesn't realize is that Kieron actually cares about her, but before he can talk to her and explain to her what is going on with her roommate, he is sent away to another country for another news story. At this point she finds out she's pregnant, and they lose touch with each other for several years. Then by sheer chance, they end up working together at another newspaper agency. A lot of bickering ensues, but underneath it all, you can tell that they care about each other and they just need to work through past hurt feelings and misunderstandings. As for the love scenes....they're definitely not as graphic as the Harlequin books written now. So if you're looking for a lot of steamy sex, you will be disappointed. I'm OK with this though, as I like the idea of "building up the sexual tension" between the two main characters....I feel like it allows you to actually anticipate the time when they WILL end up being together. Sometimes there's just nothing quite like anticipation, you know?! And when the love/ sex scenes DO happen, the author also allows some of that to be "left to the imagination". Since I have a pretty good imagination, I don't mind this at all :)Overall, a very good book. Read it with an open mind, and with the understanding that this book was written almost 30 years ago! While it MAY not be for the "younger generation" of Harlequin readers, I think most people (not necessarily the "older" generation, either ) will enjoy this book. I would recommend it! :)

I like the book, but I don't love it. Penny Jordan is one of my favorite authors (I have so many!) The characters are good and the story is believable

An Above Average Penny Jordan Romance
A sweet young thing is being romanced by an older newspaper reporter. The problem is that he is using her to get close to her room mate who's brother is a crook that the hero is trying to get the goods on for a story.Well, he does just that, files his story the next morning after a night of seduction, which leaves the heroine pregnant, to face the fallout all alone. The heroine is forced to move & change her so bad is the publicity. A few years later, she is shocked & horrified to find her new boss is the man who seduced & betrayed her. Enjoyable read for a slow weekend.
