First of all, lets start out with what's actually good or at least convenient. The fact that they are a fraction of the weight compared to replacement-sand, felt quite convenient. They are also so light that there is no risk or worry of damaging the pipe and it's spokes inside the filter when you're adding them. Sadly that is the end of what beneficial things I can say.I'm about a month into the use an no amount of chemicals or vacuuming will solve this issue. The filter balls don't even seem to remotely filter the algae or debris out. After vacuuming, backwashing and rinsing the feedback spews out great plumes of the same algae that it was supposed to filter.I've opened the filter to check on it and I can't detect any issue or damage. It seems like the balls simply don't catch anything. Another drawback is that there is scarcely any good information on these things around as very few people use them. Some of the pool stores I've queried have never used them, some haven't even heard of "filter balls".I was quite enamored with the idea of not having to lug 300 lbs of sand to replace the filter-sand but much to my disappointment it seems I will be spending my weekend doing exactly that. My recommendation if you made it this far, avoid the headache cause a month of trial and error and hundreds of dollars in chemicals later, my pool is greener than it was before I made the change from sand.

So far so good. At least now my vacuum actually has suction. Much cleaner then using sand. Hopefully these will be a great improvement. Not having to backwash as much so far. We will see.

claims to be 1.5 lb = 50 lb of sand. i have a task that holds 150 lb sand, and this is 6 lb of balls. the balls did not even cover the plastic water nozzles at bottom of tank. once added water, they just floated around. no way they are filtering. wish i could rewritten them, but they are soaked wet.

Arrived looking very obviously repackaged and not at all actually new
