Use to greatly improve portable AC efficiency
A lot of people who buy portable air conditioning units don't realize that the exhaust hose should be insulated to keep the heat in the hose only and improve their portable AC's efficiency. The exhaust hose on portable ACs pushes extremely hot air and if the typically flimsy plastic exhaust hose is not insulated, it radiates a lot of heat to the immediate area, impacting the ambient air temperature of your room and causing the AC compressor to perform extra work, since the AC's intake vents on the body is pulling in the extra hot ambient air from around the exhaust hose.I used this spiral wrap to tightly wrap my portable AC's exhaust hose using a 30-35% overlap to ensure adequate insulation coverage. I used foil tape to attach and close up both ends of the exhaust hose and also used foil tape to seal the outer bends where the spiral duct wrap overlapped around 10%. Prior to using this wrap, my AC exhaust hose, while turned on in 87 degree F humid weather, would have a temperature of around 110 degrees F and radiated a ton of heat which could be felt a foot away. After a single wrap, my newly insulated exhaust hose was down to around 85-90 degrees and did not radiate heat. It was warm to the touch, but I could not feel heat in the air around it. This was a vast improvement and my room, which used to take hours to barely cool when the exhaust hose was not insulated, now only took around 10 minutes! A vast improvement! If you buy a portable AC, it is a must-have to get this insulation wrap as well as foil tape. This insulation paid for itself within a couple days of highly efficient use. You will save money on electric use and extend the life of your AC unit by using this wrap, as you won't need to run the AC nearly as much to cool down your room.

Easier than fiberglass, not for truly insulating.
There's really no R value. I used with heat wire for pipes in a tuck under garage. The air gap with foil backing should provide more heat dissipation. Much easier to work with than fiberglass backed stuff. It's best to read the manufacture's website and specifications to truly understand the uses of this product.

Worked perfect for my application (portable A/C hose insulation).
I needed something to wrap the hose going out window on my portable air conditioner in my 2nd floor bedroom (above garage and below attic so gets way too warm). I'm so please I wrapped that hose - I had no idea what a huge difference it would make. Now I can't feel the heat from that hose leaking into room. If your hose isn't straight, which mine is not, it takes a little finesse wrapping and making sure every part of hose is encased. But it can be done and it's worth it. It helped me (I'm a girl and not handy so others may have better advice) to cut in smaller lengths and tape - don't try and do in one long run. Anyway, the shorter pieces helped me get closest to the hose and work my way around the couple curves in hose. I also bought the wider version of this but I found this narrower (4" wide) was easier to wrap around those small angled curves.Previous summers I didn't have this insulation but this summer with this installed, I've noticed big difference that room cools more quickly, compressor doesn't run as often, and no heat loss from that hose.I'll have to find some other applications for this stuff. What to wrap next? :-)

Space-Age Wrap = Clean Installation
What do you get when you cross bubble wrap with Mylar? Reflectix! No joke here, but a very nice and simple product to insulate anything that you can wrap. I used the 4" version of this product, but they make it a number of different widths. This is NOT a self-adhesive product. They sell a special tape to secure the ends. Unless you want to experiment with something else, I'd use their tape, but I used an aluminum tape with a high-temp adhesive tack that I already had. It worked fine, but individual results may vary. Some adhesives don't play well with some plastics, and remember this is an aluminized myler. Remember that a lot of tapes were never meant to be used on hot surfaces. Their adhesiveness loses its hold. That's why I'd use their recommended tape (see product description), or use something else that's appropriate for the conditions under which you're using it.My application was to insulate the exhaust on a portable air conditioner. The hose was getting too hot to comfortably touch, so I knew that it was putting heat back into my place. I decided to insulate it, but didn't want anything sticky on my hose. Reflectix was perfect for this, since it has not adhesive. Now, I no longer feel heat through the hose that's covered with the Reflectix. That's huge, and exactly how it's supposed to work. You just start at one end of the item you're wrapping, and keep going until you're done. The 25' roll I used covered the 3' long hose easily with lots of overlap on the wraps. I simply put a piece of tape at the end, and it's holding together nice and tight. The shiny wrap looks industrial, but it's a very clean look.

So Easy to install! Love this stuff.
Awesome stuff! Much better than yellow insulation wrap with flimsy plastic. This stuff is great, and the tape to go with it is VERY VERY sticky! Awesome!!!! Cannot brag enough. I'll update after the first freeze. We used this on 40' of pex pipe under a cabin. Much easier installation than the yellow MD Products Insulation.

Not what I expected
I thought it was a tape with glue on one side, but it has no glue. It was kind of hard to work with. It was difficult to get it to stay in place while it was taped to hold it. Seems to work well, even though I couldn't get it as tight as I would have liked.

Good product
It's a little stiff to work with but so far appears to keep my water pipes from freezing. I strung a heat tape inside and then wrapped the pipe. It has been down into the 20's and so far no problem. And I didn't have to travel to the store to get it thanks to Amazon
