Great for a smartphone dashcam and LEGAL unlike windshield mounts
I've actually have ordered over two dozen different windshield.dash mounts. and finally found one that works for me... Well for many states its illegal to attach any device to the windshield besides lower bottom corners of the windshield and most cars, well that's not even possible depending on the vehicle and slope of the dash and windshield. So I was trying to get a solution to hold my iPhone (had a 5 with a military survivor case, now have a 6S with case and both fit fine)... and was also considering dashcams... then i found a great app that's an amazing dashcam... thus i needed a good mount to hold the phone stable for the video... almost every mount i tested had vibration, or would droop, or would block the camera, or simply got in the way, or again were illegal if mounted... So, I looked into more dash mounts... most had aggressive adhesive, or permanent adhesive which i would never attach something to a vehicle dash wrecking it. Then I saw this one.. Many people complained it was HUGE... not big at all I've had garmin GPS dashpads before... those are at LEAST twice as big as this.. this is only slightly larger than the phone.. The actual unit looks slightly different on the base it does not sit flush as shown... the base does not conform and does have a very small gel stick pad in the back that keeps the unit from moving... I drive hard and havent had the unit move at all - that little bit of gel must be the key since the pad itself is not sticky and its not really heavy enough to stay in place. Bad things is on hot days the rubber top piece inside of the lid will fall down... so it should be glued better but i just pushed it back up... seems as it cools its fine or if a phone in it. So for those who drive alot and use with a phone, to avoid over heating your phone, make sure to run the AC with the defroster to keep the phone a little cooler, and never leave your phone in a closed car, it would overheat in no time..Update. Removal of the holder ever so gently tore the dash and in hot days the rubber section falls out

This is my favorite one I have had a tom tom in it ...
This is my 2nd one I keep one in my car and one in my boyfriend SUV. I have had several holders for GPS suction cups, Velcro, windshield mounts, sunvisor clips, magnetic holders you name I probably have had it far as GPS, cell phone holders. This is my favorite one I have had a tom tom in it and I got a 6" long Garmin for Christmas they both fit in it. I can fit my GPS and iPhone 5s in it at same time. You can only see one at a time but it can hold both at the same time. This wouldn't work with a GPS with a dash cam the way the holder is made would block the camera part but other than that would say it would hold any GPS and most cell phones. Some cell phones are almost as big as the electronic note books, tablets wouldn't hold anything that big. Wish it was a little cheaper but if I need another holder for my GPS I will get this. I hope they never stop selling these. This is the best holder ever in my opinion.

Convenient and useful
The Neutral: the item is a little larger and bulkier than expected, this is not necessarily a bad thing, just different. Also: the bottom "bean-bag" part is not as flexible or moldable as expected, meaning it does not so much conform to the dash shape as just sits on top of it.The bottom has some "bean-bag" action but it is rather stiff, perhaps because it is brand new.Maybe if I work on it a bit pushing and shaping it will get better. The Good: it currently does stay put on the dash and does not go sliding away on turns. It also holds the phone very tightly which is good.My phone has a 6.5 inch screen plus a case which makes it rather large and heavyThis holds it well and would even hold a larger phone. All in all I am satisfied with this, and may buy a second one for another car.

A good idea. Works, but a little awkward.
A little awkward for my Roadmate 2230, but functional. The product is better than the suction cup on a mount or windshield, where it falls off unexpectedly. This would be great except for the wide canopy that covers up the on switch. To use this effectively. you have to shift the GPS off center so that you can reach the switch. This is not ideal, but does work. Also, the bottom is not flat and this appears a bit unstable. There is a block in the rear with adhesive, but unless this is positioned way toward the windshield there is no flat surface in my CR-V that even comes close so this would work. I used a piece of non-skid silicon rubber and it works fine.

My friend has a beanbag type one that has a place for the charger cord to go through easily and I liked it but couldn't find one
It works well and does not move off or around the dash. I use it for my TomTom GPS. It is definitely heavy and I have a smaller car where there aren't a lot of places to keep it when not in use. My friend has a beanbag type one that has a place for the charger cord to go through easily and I liked it but couldn't find one just like it. I got this one abecause it looked like there would be room for the charger cord to connect to the GPS and go down to the charging port. It works OK for that.

I am more than pleased with the quality and the functionality of this holder
I am more than pleased with the quality and the functionality of this holder. I got if for my TomTom GPS, which I still like to use when on the highway traveling. I went through the mounting disks and pads provided with the GPS and was never really pleased with the results. This unit is just perfect for my needs. It stores away closed in the glovebox, and sits securely on the dash when I need to use it. The spring is strong and there are several notches to adjust the tilt of your phone/gps when using. The unit sits snug on my dashboard while driving and is easy to slip under the seat when I park somewhere and leave the car. I would highly recommend this holder to anyone.

They should just call this "barnacle"
It's a barnacle, plain and simple. The unit is quite large, and the spring-loaded clamp quite heavy. Using it to hold an iPhone. I am not using the little sticky pad on the bottom, this thing just stays on my dash without fail (so far). Granted, my 95 Buick has a flat dash so it's easier for this unit to perform well. Just don't hit your dashboard with too much vinyl cleaner and this thing will work well.
