Q: How high is the opening for suv or van attachment? Will it fit over barn van doors?

I think it should fit fine. I had a lot of extra room on either side, top & bottom of my tailgate door when it was up. I have a 2017 dodge journey crossroad plus. Probably measuring the height of the doors from the top to the ground.

Q: Is it able to fit on a 2023 kia soul or 2022 subaru wrx?

We have a Toyota Prius and whileI do not know the exact comparable sizes, I'm guessing either car you mention is not too far off or that much smaller than ours. The way the backside is with attaching to the car, my wife and I feel like you will be able to make it work on either car. That back "hole" can be pulled down, but not all the way to "close it off," yet enough that this action indicates to us that smaller cars can close this hole down to fit them and "tighten" into place with the anchor lines like any other vehicle. Overall it seems to us to have a good range in sizes it can adjust to. Again, I do not know the size comparison, but to our read of sizes, it should work.

Q: Can 1 person set this up?

You could with patience, but my wife and I agree it is much easier with two. When testing it on our car she did much of the work to test how easy it is for one person. She could do most of it alone. There were some steps it was easer to do together, but she managed them alone. Thinking back, the main time we felt it was easier with two was setting up the poles at the front, one holding up the one pole while the other person secured the other.

Q: Any suggestions for improving waterproofness? Some reviews say it leaks. Can this be improved?

Adding a Waterproof tarp on top that bigger so that water can run down and not go inside.
