Ignition timing light for setting the ignition timing by petrol engines with standard or transistor ignition system. The ignitions can be adjusted for 6-Volt as well as 12-Volt. (By 6-Volt ignitions an external power source with 12-Volt is rquired.) A very bright xenon bulb and a special converging lens ennsure optimal visibility of the stationary timing mark even by a rotation speed above 8000 RPM in near-field applications. Connect the timing light to a 12-Volt battery with the help of the crocodile clips and the inductive clam directly to the ignition cable in the proximity of the plug connector. Setting the correct ignition timing The setting of the engine ignition timing should always be made while the engine is warmed -up and the cold air flap of the carburettor must be completely open. While measuring and setting, the engine should run at the original idle speed (usually corresponds to approx. 850 ±50 rpm). If this is not the case you must first correct the idle speed. Connect the inductive pick up /clam of the timing light with the spark plug/ignition cable of the 1st cylinder, connect the crocodile clips for 12Volt +/- to the 12V battery of the vehicle. The correct ignition timing is indicated in the operation manual of the vehicle or the workshop manual. Corresponding to these specifications now point the timing light ( the strobe lamp) directly at the timing mark on the V-belt pulley at a 90° angle if possible. The timing mark should match exactly ( seen through the strobe timing light) the parting line of the engine block. If the ignition is not correctly set, the distributer has to be adjusted as indicated in the workshop manual untill a matching of the timing mark is reached. (For more spark retard rotate clockwise and for more advance ignition rotate counterclockwise.) Screw the distributor tightly and check again with the ignition timing light
