Better than the competition
I've had several of these focus pull systems and the Smallrig is my favorite. It's easy to install and works effortlessly. I really like the feel of the product. I believe smallrig makes some of the best products for aftermarket accessories for photo and video equipment and this one is another fine example. The dial is smooth and very accurate.

Worked great…Until it stopped working…AGAIN ***update***
The media could not be loaded. ***Update 2***I should have taken the refund…Since receiving the replacement I used it maybe 4 times (just not a something I use a lot), I recently was preparing for a shoot in which I would need the follow focus, so I fired it up, and it’s as dead as the first one. When you turn the focus wheel the numbers advance on the remote but not the motor the gear does not move (same problem as the first one). However I can initiate an auto calibration from the wheel and the motor will start turning. I can find no documentation online of this problem, nor firmware upgrades of any kind from Smallrig. Tried reaching out to Smallrig with no response. So I’m updating my review to ⭐️. I love Smallrig products, I own a bunch of them, but this one I would not recommend.Smallrig if your reading this…I’ll take that refund now please…***Update***SmallRig was finally able to contact me about this issue. I understand that it was the Chinese New Year which is the cause of the delayed response. At any rate SmallRig offered me a full refund, but I asked for a replacement unit instead, because I do like the product, the 1st one just didn't last. So they sent me what looks like a refurbished replacement, I only say it looks refurbished because a couple of screws on the focus motor looked like they were rounded out a bit, like they had been removed and replaced. So far so good, I’ll update again in a few months to see how it holds up.***Original review***I purchased this system on 12/1/22 for a trip to Asia on 12/28/22. I tested the unit 4-5 times wile in the states, everything worked perfect and was just what I wanted. The 3rd day in Tokyo the unit would power on but would not advance the motor wheel when the grip knob was turned.I tested this wireless and wired. The numbers on both units advance but the motor does not move.I power this unit from a Sony and canon battery or a Vmount battery P-Tap USBC cable. No matter the power source the motor does not turn.I did find however that if you put the motor in to calibration mode the motor turns as you can see in the above video. If this unit still worked it would be ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all the way, but for now it’s ⭐️, only because I can’t give it 0.I contacted Amazon, they said to contact SmallRig. I tried contacting SmallRig through Amazon, their own customer support at Smallrig.com and through Facebook messenger with no reply, so this is my last ditch effort to get this unit replaced before my next trip (South America) in March.**SMALLRIG I HAVE PURCHASED TONS OF EQUIPMENT FROM YOU, I WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE THAT TREND BUT IF YOU CANT MAKE THIS RIGHT THEN I HAVE PURCHASED MY LAST PIECE OF EQUIPMENT FROM YOU.

Great
It's a game changer if you shoot videos by yourself. It works like a charm, is easy to use, and I have no issues. The weird thing is it takes 2 different kinds of batteries. A Canon and a Sony.

Solidly built and reliable
One of the the biggest differences between this controller and other ones is that it allows you to power the motor independently of anything else. Most other wireless follow focus systems require separate power for the focus motor, which is not a problem if you’re running a bigger cinema camera set up, but if you’re doing a small mirrorless camera or handheld set up, trying to power the motor can be problematic. Not an issue with this as the motor has its own little Sony battery plate that you can powered it off of. You can also power the motor using a USB-C cable if you want to run it off a different power source.Solidly built, I really like the feel of the handle in my hand. I like that it is similar to using a gimbal with the finger wheel for adjusting focus. I have not had an issue with it at all, though it is very sensitive, so it’s a challenge to use it for precise focus pulls. I use it more for just keeping things in focus while I’m shooting in general broll. You do need a cannon battery for the handle, which is kind of a bummer as I use all Sony stuff so I have to get a separate battery specifically for the handle.Everything comes in a nice semi rigid case for keeping all your pieces together in one spot. The only issue that I have with the kit is that the battery plate for the focus motor does feel a little on the cheaply made side, it attaches solidly to the motor, but it feels like it can easily break if you put too much pressure on it as you put it on or take it off.

Plastic Quality and Can't use dummy battery.
Unfortunately the quality of the handle is plastic feeling and feels like it'll snap off if your rig is heavy. Also, the battery hatch door doesn't allow for dummy battery to be used. Poor design on their end for that.

The wireless recover motor does not work
The media could not be loaded. I had high hope on this product and was very excited receiving it. But the wireless receiver motor does not turn on, I followed the instructions and even watched videos, nothing works. I made sure the batter is charged but it just won’t turn on. How disappointing!!!

Are you guys…
For the bad reviews with issues of not working, are you guys having the motor and handle too close to each other? I know the previous version did not work well if you had the controller and motor on the same side of the camera and too close to each other. I see some of you guys holding the handle and motor literally right next to each other trying to get it to work. If it’s anything like the previous version, that may be your problem!

Doesn’t work as advertised.
The media could not be loaded. Spent hours on this, tried different ways auto and both manual calibration, doesn’t work properly, check the video.

You need Sony and Canon Batteries
This thing works, and it does what it's supposed to, but they really make you work for it.Simply put, this whole system doesn't work outside of the box, they tell you that you need to buy a Canon E6 battery, what they don't tell you is that you also need a Sony NP-F550 battery for the motor unit. Why couldn't they make them the same battery? The battery on the motor seems fairly secure, but I don't think it'll hold up to getting bonked around. The USB adapter that the motor comes with needs 9 volts of power through the USB, and I find that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, you pretty much need the D-tap to USB-c converter. The controls are stupid, but you'll figure it out eventually.Don't bring this out on a shoot until you've practiced setting it up, or you're going to have a bad time.

Great Value, Weak Motor
I really wanted to love this unit, it seems like an incredible deal...Unfortunately the extremely low torque on the motors makes this all but useless for zooming lenses that telescope. If you plan to exclusively use this for focusing/iris or lenses that zoom internally, this is a great option for you. However, lenses that zoom externally (in my case the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 DG DN) tend to require too much force to zoom them and the motor simply isn't powerful enough.
