If you are a Bayern Munich fan, you have to own this book. It tells the complete story of how the club started, worked through the ups & downs over 100+ years, and eventually became one of world football's great clubs.

Really great book. Covers pretty much everything. I learned a lot. A must read for any Bayern fan.

Bayern: Create a Global Superclub by Uli Hesse is likely the best soccer history book I have ever read. A very well researched, entertaining, and informative read. Hesse begins with the very roots of FC Bayern from the early 1900s up until the present day. I learned a great deal about the most successful German soccer franchise of all time. Topics include how Bayern survived different periods of German history, including the notorious 1930s and 40s where, unlike other soccer clubs, FCB was more defiant towards the Nazis. One learns about the culture and brotherhood that exists within the club as well as the contributions of an entire list of historical members, both managers such as Kurt Landauer, Uli Hoeness (also a great Bayern player), Udo Lattek, Pal Csernai, and Jupp Heynckes and players such as the greats Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Muller, Kalle Rummenigge, Paul Breitner, Lothar Matthaus and many many more. Really, the ultimate FC Bayern Munich book!

Und das damals eigentlich 1860 das Aushängeschild war in München, wo alle Stars hinwollten. Und Bayern die Underdogs. Wie schnell und radikal sich das umgekehrt hat. DasBuch bietet viele solch erstaunliche Fakten, nicht nur über den Fußball, sondern auch über gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen, und ist daher wirklich sein Geld wert.

Great read, not only for Bayern fans but for all football enthusiasts. Uli Hesse is one of the best and most knowledgeable writers of German football, his books are fun to read and are choke full of anecdotes and amazing facts that very few other authors can match. He is the to go guy if you want to know more about German Football and you don't speak German.

If you've read any of the previous work by Uli Hess (Tor!) then you'll know to expect a great book. And it is.Its a well written history of Bayern showing that the glitz and glamour club didn't always have it easy. A long journey has taken place in order to become a footballing juggernaut. And all from a humble beginning, completely different to the modern club. The early stages of the book cover the struggles of football being accepted by German society. It also covers the eventual rise in popularity of the sport, disruption caused by two world war's, and the strong Jewish association with Bayern. So it's not only a book about football. Plenty of history as in the early years to club lived a nomadic lifestyle.The emerging stars of the future and those that went on to forge the backbone of the club (far too many to name!), the era's of both professionalism and commercialism are covered. The rise and fall (which was never far away) of Bayern, Hollywood FC also make for interesting reading. However it is the few name's which keep cropping up throughout.Full of information, not only of Bayern but of the Bundesliga and will be a fine addition to anyone wanting to read more about German football. And the book will also shed a new light upon the club. All conquering they may well be but they've fought hard to establish what they have. Just don't mention the tax returns.......
