It IS B&W
It IS B&WI read the dvd description and it said B&W, which is what I wanted. I received the DVD and the jewel box case shows multiple images from the movie and they are all color ) none are B&W); I was getting worried that I had received a colorized version. The description in fine print on the case said B&W. I didn't know what I gotI inserted the disc into player and the classic B&W started playingAmazon's description and the fine print on the case are correct. Why Warner Brothers decided to colorize all the photos from the movie and put them on the packaging of a B&W movie, I don't know

Holday movies
I always like these Christmas stories especially A Christmas Carol with Reginald Owen portraying Scrooge. Gene Lockhart and his wife, Kathleen Lockhart, would portray the Cratchits. This 1938 film is done in black and white so gives the viewer a better idea what it was like to live in the "Victorian" era. I enjoy these types of movies because these are more real life situations than many of the movies we see today. This is one I would really recommend.

Best version of the Christmas Ghost Story.
A Christmas Carol is a novel study for my 7th grade Literature class.Unfortunately , we were unable to finish it before our winter break. I received permission to show the 2nd half of this version (my personal favorite) so students could have closure. My 6th period class loved it!! A perfect ending to a novel that others did not think Jr High students would understand or appreciate. Boy, were they wrong! My district is very strict about not showing videos, but if you are able to show the film in it's entirenty, the running time of this version is just over an hour, which is perfect to use to to compare and contrast to the novel. This particular film has been a favorite since I was a child.

My favorite Charles Dickens Christmas Carol Movie
I absolutely adore this adaptation of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. My favorite movie version out there. I love the classic black and white films. The cast is outstanding. Flawless performances. I have nothing to criticize about it. Gene and Kathleen Lockhart are so lovely. Terry Kilburn was a delightful tiny Tim. Barry Mackay was such a cheerful and likeable nephew of an old scrooge. And Reginald Owen is in my opinion has the best overall portrayal of a cold grumpy mean old Ebenezer Scrooge that I've ever seen on film. This adaptation is the only version I care to watch every year. All others pale in comparison. I'd give it ten stars if I could. I am happy to finally own my own DVD copy now.

Different from other versions of A Christmas Caro I've seen.
This version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol was really different from other versions that I've seen. First of all Scrooge isn't as miserable, he's got a child-like quality that shows through the miserly disposition, secondly Tiny Tim looked healthier than any other member of the Cratchitt family, and third the visits from the spirits were shorter and left out sizeable Chunks of each spirit's part in the story. But in the end this was a somewhat lighthearted and enjoyable version of a classic tale, I enjoyed it.

A classic that never gets old
The only good version! Love the B & W, colorizing ruins it. Reginald Owen is fantastic! Well written script that shows you exactly how Scrooge became who he is and how he changes.

great acting, poor sound
An interesting portrayal of Ebinezer Scrooge - more sour, less overtly "evil" than other portrayals out there. It follows the book reasonably well. This was the only portrayal I've seen where the Ghost of Christmas Past was played by an old man. My ONLY criticism is the lack of sound quality, particularly with the music and the "echo chamber" voices of the ghosts. This needs a serious digital restoration.

The best version...
This adaption shows the true meaning of Christmas (the birth of Jesus Christ),better than all others.Reginald Owen is terrific as the lead character. The movie also features a real life married couple playingthe roles of Mr.&Mrs. Bob Cratchett. A very strong supporting cast, headed by Scrooge's nephew.A heartwarming story.

Have loved this version for many years of the classic tale ...
Firstly this Blu-Ray will play within the UK. Have loved this version for many years of the classic tale and for me it beats the 1951 version no end. The BR quality is as good as it can be on this vintage film and sheer joy to have in HD, good picture and sound. The standard extras are regular quality only so note that.A very welcome release on BR disc and proudly sits in the Christmas collection.

A Christmas Carol (Reginald Owen) Region Free Blu-ray.
I Won't harp on about the premise of A Christmas Carol, but this Reginald Owen version looks very impressive in the Blu-ray format for its age. And once again, as with many films, Amazon highlights this release as region A. It is actually region free and plays fine on my region B player.

Rare Xmas treat
A rare American version that stays faithful to the book and captures the essence of the story perfectly - years before the Alistair Sim definitive version.
