Starwest Botanicals Activated Hardwood Charcoal Powder - 4 oz Bag

This product is awesome. I bought it for two reasons: Toothpaste replacement and teeth whitening. I am trying to get into a lifestyle of using products (lotions, body wash, etc) that only have natural ingredients. I really wanted to find a natural way to whiten my teeth without paying hundreds of dollars at a dentist and without putting all of those chemicals into my body. After much research, I found that activated charcoal works great. As a bonus, I found that it can also be used to brush your teeth instead of toothpaste. I've been using it for a few weeks now and so far so good. I don't use anything else....not even mouthwash. I also brush my tongue with it for fresh breath. Activated charcoal absorbs bacteria and tannins in the mouth. My teeth feel much cleaner than usual and my teeth are much whiter. It does take a few months for your teeth to become it's maximum white color so I'm not 100% there yet. I love brushing my teeth with it, however it is SUPER messy. I have to wipe my sink down every time I brush my teeth and I pretty much have to keep my mouth closed as much as possible to minimize the mess. But it's worth it if I don't have to put any chemicals in my mouth on a daily basis for the rest of my life.

I just got this in the mail today and was very excited to try it, especially after hearing that it whitens your teeth and doesn't cause sensitivity. I have tried numerous teeth whitening products and had yet to find one that didn't hurt my teeth, until I tried this. I first brushed my teeth, then I poured some of the powder into a bowl, got my toothbrush wet with warm water and tapped the tip of it into the powder and brushed it onto my teeth. I let it sit on my teeth for about 30 minutes then brushed my teeth with water to get the charcoal powder off my teeth and out of the crevices. You may need to brush your teeth again with toothpaste or floss since some of the charcoal may not come out from between your teeth. I did notice a difference in the color of my teeth, they appeared to be whiter, even after once use. Hopefully they will get whiter with more use. My only issue with this product is it is very messy! My sink was black from the charcoal and it also ran all over my mouth when brushing. I would advise you to be careful when opening and closing the package, to be extra safe I put my package in a ziplock bag that way it won't accidentally spill out.

I have used this product for several natural products, including natural mascara and to whiten my teeth. I was SHOCKED at the difference it made in my teeth! You can see the results in the picture I added (Dont' judge! I have bad teeth!.) The final result was from only two days worth of using this product for 5 minutes each time. I'm still in shock at how much of a difference there was (these photos were not edited or filtered in any way except to put them all in one picture.) When you're using it on your mouth, it looks SOOOO creepy. Kinda zombie-teeth-ish. It scared me when I looked in the mirror. HA. I will caution that this stuff does make a mess. Be prepared. It has not stained my sink, counters or anything like that, but I spilled a BUNCH on my shirt and it did stain the shirt. It's a very fine powder and it does make an easy mess but as long as it's cleaned up quickly, I don't think it should cause an issue for anything except clothing. I used it successfully in natural mascara as well. I will absolutely order it again when I run out.

Someone suggested I use this to get mildew smells out of clothing after a natural disaster. It works, and has helped with the smell, but this stuff gets everywhere. Just opening the bag, because it's such a fine powder, gets all over the place - even in your nose!

I bought this to put in my homemade toothpaste powder to whiten my did and it does just that! I have noticed a HUGE difference in the color of my teeth since using.

This is a perfect value. Do not buy more ounces at a higher price thinking you will save money. A little goes a long way. I use this for cosmetic reasons, and you don't need a lot to get a good effect. It is much cheaper than buying it at retail or in capsule form. Just get this product! I love this stuff. The surface area of it is so enormous that it is super absorbent. CHEM 101. ;) It is a bit messy, so be careful when you open and use it. Preferably over a kitchen sink. As with any powder than can turn into dust, do not inhale it. That could be a dangerous mess. Never inhale any powders!!! lol I use this in my face mask, btw. I mix 4 parts kaolin clay: 2 parts bentonite clay: 1 part colloidal oatmeal: 1 part activated charcoal. I add water until it is a mud, and apply to my face. Once it dries up on your skin, rinse. All the ingredients I use I found for cheap on amazon.

After searching I found that charcoal has good benefits for many things so I bought it. For me, it does whiten the teeth without staining. I've taken it with an upset stomach and worked too. It is a chalky of course going down but I get it down. I don't like taking pills or tablets so bulk is great for me. It can be messy so be careful. I put what I want in a glass then add a very small amount of water to stir it up. Then I will add more water. I will only mix the amount needed to get it down then follow it up with another glass of water. As others mentioned you will have black stools in the morning. To me it feels that things really got mopped up. I will buy this again when needed and recommend charcoal in bulk form.

Love this! A bit messy but works great for adding to my soaps, face mask, and taking it orally for detox! Bang for your buck! If your using it in your face I suggest doing it before showering, it does get a bit messy.

It smells quite gross, but maybe most charcoal does? Anyway works great mixed with a number of cosmetic products.. mainly for facial masks or scrubs!
