Are you bending the plastic on the cable?
It should be made a little stronger but the problem you are having is you can't just install the cable and not readjust the the clamps! You can't just install it and pull the lever back or any cable would break. The first time you force the lever back it will bent. The reason it bends is because you titened down the cable hold downs without checking the adjustments the holding clamps. It is not the cables fault. If you are not adjusting the clamps first you have ruined the cable on the first pull making the cable usless.

Toro Personal Pace 22"
Changing it out isn't too bad. YouTube videos are available. I think it took me ~30 minutes. I did leak some fuel from having it on the side. Should probably drain gas tank first.

The plastic is too weak
Purchased 2,both were the same, the plastic at the mounting point on the handle flexes rather than engaged blade..grim

It fit perfect. Th right part medium effort to install, no fault of the part< Toro doesn't make it easy to get at.. Over all about 1 hour to put in.

Garbage
Do not waist your money. This product is garbage it work maybe twice. Plastic is cheap and cannot hold it's shape and just bends so blad will not engage and just keeps bending and falling out of place. This is the only review you need to depend on.

Just waiting on it to Break
My blade cable broke on OEM so I ordered this replacement. Installation was easy since this is not a difficult item to replace. Once i begin to mow I noticed the blade not engaging. I then notice how warped and distorted the part became. I am not over extending the cable but noticed that the plastic part as shown in picture was not a hard plastic. I even place a zip tie around the cable and bar to help hold it straight. That works now but when you engage the self propel the zip tie would just slide off. Still working but doubt it will last long.

TERRIBLE plastic portion near handle of the mower
Most of the parts of this product work fine but in the end the flimsy plastic that is part of the lever to engage the blade does not work at all. I would give it zero stars if possible. The manufacturer leads to change the rigidity of the plastic and it would be a fine product. As it stands not at all worth the money.

There's a lot of incorrect / misleading reviews on this cable.
I am a lawnmower mechanic and have been a mechanic for 30 years.First off, this cable was not the correct fit for my mower...Not sure why, but there was too much cable exposed out of the end of the housing, so I could not adjust it. I ended up cutting the end off and shortening the inner cable.Secondly, all of the people who are commenting that this cable is weak or bad quality.... They are installing the cable wrong. This is not a job for your average DIYer ... The cable needs to be adjusted so that there is a little stretch to the spring when fully engaged, but not too much tension.People who have posted bent or damaged cables are simply not installing the cable correctly.
