I’m a 1st year MSW student and this is a very valuable resource for me already. I’m glad I bought my own copy because I will definitely be referring to it when I do my field placements.It has very detailed information on practice skills and how to perform talk therapy (again, the emphasis is on skills, not specific evidence based practices).It is generalist in focus—as is my MSW program so this orientation fit with my program’s.

I originally rented this book for an Undergrad Social Work class, in the middle of my first semester, I ended up finding it brand new to purchase for even less than I paid to rent it! I am now in Grad School and was required to use the book again and I continuously use it as a reference and source for writing papers. Definitely worth purchasing rather than renting if you are a Social Work student!

So I rented this for my SW Practice I class and well I ended up having to rent it AGAIN for my SW Practice II class. I should have bought the book. Especially because it has great info to study for the licensing exam. I’m going to end up buying this book even though I have the rental now. It’s sucks that I wasted so much money renting rather than buying. I HIGHLY suggest for you to buy this book if you are a social work major.

The book came the next day, although I am a Prime member. And for a rental, was in perfect condition which is always nice to get! As opposed to a bunch of markings and highlighting. And reasonably priced.Very pleased.

The physical book of this is very badly edited, as I assume it was originally written as an ebook and then converted for publishing physically. There are references throughout, multiple times in every chapter (sometimes multiple references on a page) to videos that are not accessible in any way from the physical book - no URL or CD provided at all. I assume those are links in the ebook, but considering how many of them there are, it's a MAJOR resource missing from the physical version. Content-wise, this is comprehensive but not as useful pr accessible as The Social Work Skills Handbook, which I rented but may buy to have on-hand for reference.
