This is one of those woodworking gadgets that makes you think that you need, but then you realise that it's worthless. It did assist in drilling holes for dowels, but there are a few things to note. 1) the alignment was slightly out on mine as the self centering was off center. This can easily be adjusted yourself. 2) it comes without any drill bits 3) there are no depth stops or drill collars, so you'll need to purchases those separately, and lastly the alignment marks are very feint and obscured by the tool when it's closed, so either scratch or paint marks on the sides of the tool. After all that, you could just as easily get drill bits and collars and do the job yourself!

I usedthe jig to dowel timber edge to edge. I found that despite lining up on the marks I made across the timbers that the holes in the subsequent board were all1.5mm adrift. Fortunately I had cut the timbers long so was not an issue as all the dowels lined up. The item is a solid piece of engineering so should last for years.

The product seemed robust but it lacks the accuracy required to be useful.There is too much play in the mechanism which results in several mm of possible and unrepeatable offset and hence poor joint matching.Considering that creating well matched joints is it’s only purpose - it’s effectively useless.I would have returned it if I hadn’t used it - and you have to use it to find this out - so buyer beware!

Very handy for drilling accurately into the edge of boards. Easy to use.

You have to spend some time fiddling with it in order to adjust it for the center alignment, however their center hole markings are between 1 to 2 mm off which is extreme i would expect it if it had only cost 5 pounds but not for this
