The six months it took us to conceive our two-year-old felt like an eternity. The 15 months it took us to conceive again once we were ready to try for number 2? Nope, still not fun. I stumbled upon this ovulation test kit in one last-ditch desperate effort to to conceive without finally heading to the dr's office. I was finally getting to that place where I felt physically and emotionally ready to face whatever it means to have a doctor treat you for infertility, but if I could try one more thing to do it on my own, why not?My cycle is about 35 days. It is very consistent. Conventional wisdom says then that I should be ovulating around day 18-19. All those expensive urine tests that I purchased gave me confusing results. What drew me to try this is that it's inexpensive, it's not messy, and it is reusable forever (as long as all the parts remain functioning). I committed to sampling my saliva daily. The first month I was shocked that my saliva revealed I was ovulating on day 10 of my cycle. That was early even by the "standard" 28-day cycle! The second month, it happened again. Day 10, according to my saliva, I was ovulating. Month 3 I figured would be the same (it was), so we timed our babymaking accordingly (let's be honest, after 15 months it's just not a whole lot of fun anymore), and 6 weeks later I was shocked and thrilled to have a positive pregnancy test. Three months with Maybe Mom and we were pregnant. I never in a million years would have guessed my ovulation occurred so early in my cycle!This tiny piece of equipment is basically a microscope miniaturized down to the size of a lipstick. This particular brand is cheap plastic, but mine was 100% functional. I did have to remove the battery and wipe it with a clean cloth before it would work, but after that it works like a charm. At the time I'm writing this review, this product is no longer available, but if you do a search you should be able to find the same thing by other brands.When we were choosing a care provider for this time around, we mentioned to one midwife that we used Maybe Mom to test my saliva. She was the first person we had met who had not only heard of the method, but also highly recommended it. It's a shame this easy, inexpensive, and effective ovulation testing method is not more well known. It gave us the most wonderful gift (we'll find out soon whether we're getting little brother or little sister!), and spared us the physical and emotional ordeal of seeing a doctor for infertility (which, as it turns out, we never needed to begin with, we just needed a little knowledge!). I know this won't be the answer for everyone facing infertility, and I do count myself lucky that all I needed was this little tool.

I ordered this item in the early evening of the 16th, and the mail man delivered it by early afternoon on the 18th. I tried it out that evening, after not eating/ drinking for >2 hours, as recommended. It showed ferning when I was definitely not potentially ovulating. But in the early morning hours, I have reliable results that show the predicted pattern of infertile period, potentially fertile period, & 100% ferning this morning. The item works as advertised with good literature/reference. For my own reference, I was able to successfuly put my smart phone camera lens up to the viewer while illuminated & took pictures yesterday and today. NO NEED to buy a different mini-microscope that has numerous slides for reference! :-)

Can't wait to try this..especially when i purchased it from Big Lots for $ 2.00. After seeing it on here at the cost of $ 54.00 and all the positive reviews. I am feeling lucky already! 😃

I just started tracking my cycles, so I have yet to have a fertile period. However I really like this product. And it came with more than I expected. I love how it can also be used as a "pregnancy test" as well, they say if after you ovulate and you still see fern like patterns then you may be pregnant! I am hoping this product, along with others helps me to conceive in the next couple of months. This product is so easy to use and the introductions are very detailed and easy to understand. I highly recommend this product to any woman ttc.

I got my microscope on time and was excited to give it try since it arrived a few days prior to expected ovulation but to my disappointment it didn't work...I reread the directions thinking maybe its an user error but nope...light wouldn't work. I contacted the seller about the issue whom was prompt, honest and straight forward. i guess they had an batch that got out that had old batteries, and refunded me my money without any questions asked. I'm hoping my cleaning it up and getting a new battery will fix it. I gave this a three due to seller HONESTY.maybe the next batch will be better.

I should have listened to the other reviewers, there really seems to be an issue with the quality control of this product.When this product arrived, the packet was in perfect condition. There were no signs of damage. Even after I opened it, it looked OK, but it did not work for some reason. When I opened the batter compartment to check, there was white powder all over the inside and both the batteries were almost stuck to each other because of excessive leakage. Amazon was very good when it came to returning it tho. Thank goodness!

Worked first time for me (second pregnancy). My ovulation urine tests kept coming back negative when I knew I was ovulating. I think I missed the window. This test gives you a bigger window if you don't have time to test your urine twice a day. And is only a one time cost. My battery was dead when it came in so I had to buy another but still well worth it. Got another girl this time too!!

This is super easy to use, just be sure to be diligent and use it every morning before you get up to brush your teeth or drink anything.[Normal days are just scattered "specs" while ovulation days look like ferns.. the specs connect... something to do with the salt levels I think. The couple of days right before are indistinct fern-ish shapes, but not so separated as the dots.]Mine broke after a couple of months, but not so bad that it was unusable for almost 6 months. (the back wouldn't stay in place, so the wires for the light got all twisted, inconsistently shorting out, and finally disconnected.)I didn't return or replace it when it finally gave out completely since I didn't need it anymore.
