A high-quality, albeit ultra-tight-fitting, ultrawide lens
This is an initial impression, not a lens review. The Meike 12mm f/2.8 ultrawide lens appears to be very well made of quality materials. It's solidly built and hefty in the hand. Mounted on a Fujifilm X-E2S its focus and aperture rings worked smoothly. A few test images were fully satisfactory. So far, I rate this lens an excellent value for its cost. Here are three things to be aware of. First, this lens, which is not small, will make today's very compact interchangeable lens cameras front heavy. A good neck strap and cradling it carefully in your hand most of the time can prevent grief. Second, this lens is all manual in operation, so it's usually necessary to go into your camera's setup or shooting menu and locate and select a setting for something along the lines of "shoot without lens" ( and then, remember to deselect that option when you replace the all-manual lens with one that has electrical contacts for auto exposure and focus.) Third, on my new X-E2S, the new Meike lens joined to the camera in a near-death grip. It took a scary amount of gripping and brute-force twisting to get it off. I hope this will become less of an issue after the lens has been mounted and unmounted a few times.A final note on this lens being all manual. You can get automatic exposure with a manual lens such as this Meike by setting your camera's mode selector dial for the "A" (aperture preferred) in PASM. Then, you select whatever aperture you want and the camera will choose a suitable shutter speed. This works well in reasonably bright light. In dim lighting, beware of having the camera set a too-slow shutter speed, so that your images will lack sharpness due to lack of steadiness at the time of exposure. The fact that this lens has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 should help avoid that problem. However, watch what shutter speeds the camera is setting. If it goes slower than 1/30th of a second, add light, grab a tripod or boost your ISO setting.

Kinda quirky, but great ... for the money
A number of reviewers have mentioned that these lenses can be a little quirky. Still, I was surprised to discover that the lens I received actually focuses beyond infinity! Usually as we turn the focus barrel from near distance to far away, we expect the ring to stop exactly at infinity. This lens turns significantly beyond the point where infinity would be in focus. The infinity mark on the barrel also moves beyond the registration mark. When it lines up with the mark the focus will be near infinity.I set up a little bench test, focusing on objects at various distances from the camera. The distance markings on the lens are as accurate as can be. The infinity mark too, when centered on the registration line, is as accurate as can be expected. You will need to learn, that to shoot distant objects you will have to FOCUS to infinity, not just turn the ring and expect all to be good. As I say, a little quirky.I'd have said my lens is defective. But I also bought, at about the same time, Meike's 25mm lens with the same X-mount. That lens has exactly the same "feature" so I presume this is designed in to the products. It would certainly make manufacturing much easier if they don't need to be highly precise in lining up the end of the barrel rotation with the "exact" point of infinity. Perhaps this helps them offer a decent lens at such a low price.Other than that, these lenses are working out really well for me. I'm not going to be putting them on the test bench, nor be doing critical architectural photography ( I've done that with a view camera in the past) There's good sharpness, and colors are well saturated, though a little subdued -- unlike some more expensive lenses where colors really "pop". Both internal and external flare is surprisingly well controlled. For a lot of serious amateur and even professional work these lenses are more than adequate. It's worth remembering that unless you've paid top dollar and carefully selected a UV filter for your lens, that filter may actually make your expensive flagship lens perform worse than these Meike without the protection. And these lenses cost less than the best filters! These Meikes remind me of good-quality lenses from the '60s and '70s. Improvements in design, manufacturing and coatings have made the best (most expensive!) lenses of today better than those of generations ago. Yet a lot of great photography has been done with decades-old technology, and still can be today. The low cost means we can afford to buy back-ups, replacements, and play with many more focal lengths and other features than we could if sticking to state of the art lenses. Coupled with a highly portable camera, that is a whole lot more valuable to me than the latest technology.

Does not feel like a 2.8.
I bought this lens for my Fuji x-T30. Seemed like a fantastic deal for a ultra wide angle lens. However it does not seem to be a F2.8, when compared to my other lenses at 2.8. It's MUCH darker compared to several of them. I would say its about F4 or greater. Gets pretty sharp in the center of the photos but starts to get blurry around the edges. Returning because for the Samyang F2 12mm as I bought both at the same time and Samyang performed better.

Great wide angle lens for the cost!
I love the minimal focus distance of this lens and how sharp the images are. Wide angle at a great price. I use this for some food photography. The only thing I wish was the lens hood was able to be reversed.
