Beck/Arnley Trans Filter - 044-8003

After watched two good videos about installing this part for 03 Honda Odyssey, it took me more than 4 hours to get in installed. Here is my Experience:1. don't need to uninstall battery tray2. uninstall engine plastic cover - 4 bolts3. remove black intake air hose4. remove battery5. unplug 2 wire holders (not wire plug) from bracket attached to upper left of battery tray when you look at the tray6. unplug a big grey wire plug (right above transmission filter)7. use 10 mm combination ratchet wrench !!! to lose two bolts with telescoping magnetic pick up tool so bolt won't be dropped8. use 8" adjusted wrench uninstall and install filter9. when screwing filter, i bent bracket which is used to hold filter with two bolts a little bit so it is easier to screw filter in...

Part Fit perfectly, no leaks. After installation, shifts were a slightly more crisp. On a Honda Odyssey, it is located in a strange place on top of the transaxle below the battery tray. Removal and Installation can be a bear without the correct tools. There are videos on youtube. I had over 200k on my Honda Odyssey with the original filter. Even though Honda does not recommend a replacement interval for this, I am happy that I changed the filter. I would recommend changing it at over 150k miles. I noticed that my transmission fluid was getting contaminated at a much faster rate after @ 150k miles. Although normal wear and tear may explain this, The black liquid that drained out of the old filter would arguably back up my belief. I religiously changed my trans fluid at $30k until about 150k mi and at 15 to 20k miles after that.

As another reviewer said, there are no markings on the item but it does come in a Beck Arnley box. Knowing from previous experience that Beck Arnley is typically a higher end aftermarket replacement product, I ordered this in lieu of a genuine OEM unit.I gave this three stars, and not higher, because:1)When installing, I noticed there wasn't as much o-ring engagement, as compared to the OEM unit, in the fitting that slips in the end of the filter after you screw the filter on. I thought this odd and after removing it and installing it several times, I took out the calipers and compared measurements to the OEM unit. The overall length of this was about 0.025" shorter. Combine this with a larger chamfer machined in the end, there was indeed less o-ring slip engagement. Also, the machining on this interior o-ring surface, although the same diameter as the OEM unit, was much rougher than OEM; not something you want to see.Although it left me feeling a little uneasy, it did seal.2)The case is less substantial than the OEM filter. However, the inside has a lot of filter pleats and looks to be decent quality.

Purchase this for a 2003 Odyssey. Product seems to perform as it should, has been in place for about 2 months/3000 miles with no issues. The line going into the filter had an oring on it and since I didn't have one I just smeared the oring with a light coat of Ultra Black RTV and it has been leak free. The only thing I had to remove to gain access was the air cleaner box and flex tube going to the throttle body.

I swapped this filter out on my 2003 honda pilot, and let me tell you it was a real job. the filter fit perfect, and was a direct replacement at a fraction of the cost of the dealer, actually swapping it out however was ridiculous.
