ROBUST & QUIET
A "bullet-proof" design; heavy as a brick, and as quiet as a mouse. . .running smooth via FW 800; will connect via USB 3 when I have a port. Impressed.

I use these drives exclusively in my recording studio and on all the projects I produce, engineer &/or mix. They are STURDY, dependable and work long and hard for years and years. The Glyph customer service is flawless; couldn't be better. I've only needed to return 2 or 3 drives out of literally hundreds over the years (I go way back with Glyph drives before their "Glyph Studio' model). I insist on THREE drives for EVERY project because, in this 'digital world' in which we are forced to live, "If it doesn't exist in THREE places, it DOESN'T exist"!

ThE packaging is top notch, the drives are very high quality, and if you should get a dead one… I did get one once… support was amazing. They did an advance replacement, at no charge, so I got the new drive without having to pay for it and then get a refund, or wait until the defective drive was received. Amazing, the way support should be.

Works fast and reliably, and is solidly built, however for small/home studio audio recording & mixing its not great due to it being the loudest external HD I've ever heard. It pumps out the same amount of noise that the old PC towers did, if not more.

This may be revised upward later if I ever receive a non-defective drive. I ordered two different Glyph drives, and both arrived defective out of the box. This one was making a light knocking sound every second and a half whenever it was on. Glyph has a fantastic-looking policy that includes one year of advance replacement. But so far it's been eight days, several frustratingly long delays, and general poor communication, and I STILL have these drives. After eight days I don't even have a return shipping label to send them back to Glyph. Nor have they sent out the advance replacements yet. These drives were to be a centerpiece of my studio, so much so that I can't move forward with shuffling data around until I get them. I'm stuck and can't get anything done. Very, very frustrating experience.

Glyph HDs have a history of superior performance, but as is true of all purchases I make, I tend to be wary of wary of until their quality is proven. I need not have been so jaded. The Glyph Studio S1000 1TB 360 MB/s External HK is an excellent product based upon my experience using it to date (about a month). It is super quiet, performs outstandingly when coupled with a small network of iMacs, and provides first class bootable backups on one's drive done with CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner). For anyone seeking a first-class backup drive I doubt that you can do better then purchasing this device. (And I have absolutely no/no relationship with its producers or the company that makes Glyphs. (Quantum)
