A Man After God's Own Heart: Devoting Your Life to What Really Matters

You will really feel encouraged by this book if you are a married, and have children. The book speaks very well to the struggles in marriage with children.However, I feel like this book could be better, if it was more inclusive for men who are single, and for couples without children.As a married man, in a marriage where we wrestle with infertility, I find the amount of "children" references disheartening. I don't think Jim is trying to say, "to be godly you have to have kids", but at the same time, the book assumes that Godly men are married with children.I felt a little lost at times, because the book's context can be hard to relate to. Putting that aside, Jim explains concepts well, and I was left wanting additional explanation of the topics applicable to all men. (For example, bible study, how to love others, honoring God, purity issues.) The discussion guide in the back of the book is a great feature. For discussion purposes, if I had to do it again, I would still be in a group with this book. I would just include additional material that is more applicable to all men.I know that not all books are written for all audiences, but the title of this book is, "A man after God's own heart". That, to me, should be open to all men, regardless of age, marital status, and whether you have children.

This is one of those books that inspires you to be what God desires from you; although you don't know quite what that is. Jim George does a fantastic job of showing you excellent Biblical men and helps you meditate and focus on the Word of God to hear him tell you how to be the best man after His own heart. I gave this book to a friend who was struggling after some personal instances in his life at a bible study. He read through it in one night and came back saying how reading this showed him that his struggles and failures didn't have to define who he was because he could still be what God desired from him because of Jesus.

We got this for a group study. It's OK but a little elementary. We had just finished Men of Honor (Highly suggest) which is a convicting, butt kicking study. But we are managing to find a lot of nuggets in this study as well, it's just a lot easier to digest.

If you are striving to be a man after God's own heart, than this book is for you. This book has changed my life. I took some of the principles of it and no matter what situation I am in, I use the principles in the book to get me through. After reading this book, I have cut some things out of my life that were hindering my walk with God. This book is going to change your whole mindset. If you are serious in your christian walk, than don't hesitate to get this book.

I read this book just wanting to do some bible study and see what others had to say. Jim George brings up some great points about life and just how I conduct my life as a Christian. This book helps me to remember that even though that I am a sinner God won't turn his back on me and that he has a plan for me and my life.

This book talked about the problems Christians face and gave solutions on how to solve them. I thought it was a great book for Christians and would suggest to my Christian friends.

My fiancè loves it! He says he is disappointed its only 3 discs. Perfect for the newer believer or man that is seeking to have a deeper relationship with God and his family!

Great book. I love ordering from Amazon. Will order more books. I highly recommend this book. It is a great read.

I had ordered this book for my now fiancé for his birthday last year. He always spoke about David in the bible and when one thinks of David, one is reminded that David was a man after God's own heart. After reading the blog, I had no hesistation in ordering it. This book covered many aspects including how to be an influence in your ministry at church, in your marriage, to your children, at your work place, etc. Based on his reviews, I would definitely recommend blessing your other half with this 'must read' book.

I did not read this book myself. I bought it as a present for a Pastor friend in America. I think he did enjoy it. I haven't heard anything from him for a wee while because he is very arthritic and only sends e-mails when he is able.
