From School Library Journal Gr 8 Up—This work picks up right where Trial by Fire (Feiwel & Friends, 2014) left off. Lily Proctor has survived the Pyre but is badly burned. She had enough presence of mind to transport herself and Rowan Fall from alternate Salem to her universe so she could heal. While there, characters from the previous volume reappear, including Tristan and Breakfast, along with some newcomers. Lily and Rowan discover they have magic in Lily's world, too, and have to decide if they share the secret of magic. While they are in Lily's world, Lillian, the worldwalking ruler of the 13 Cities, is not content to let Lily go, and she will do what she must to bring her back to alternate Salem because only Lily has the power to save it. Angelini takes readers on a high stakes and fast-paced ride once again. The author blends fantasy, science fiction, mythology, and light romance seamlessly, and this tale will appeal to a broad spectrum of readers. Her transformation, great power, and humility are admirable, making her a very likable character. Readers will also like the dreamy male characters that fall at Lily’s feet. Layers
Layers. This is no one dimensional book. There are worlds in here. Multiple worlds. New worlds. And you get to see them all. You are never standing still. You are always moving forward, and as the plot changes the scenery changes with you. We start off with Lily back in the real world being healed by Rowan. I love the experience we get to have with this set. We get to see how a witch fits into the real world, how much Lily's journey has changed her, and how this impacts those around her. The involvement of her friends is great, and I thought the training time was a good way to keep things moving. Then we jump back to the other world. Then we travel through the woods, underground, train, city, wild, and then deep in the wild. Each of these experiences is different and creates a vivid picture for you to walk through with the characters. Then finally the journey west completely expands the new world as we know it and ventures into totally new territory. Along the way we are working through other issues and emotional analysis, but you never feel like the characters had to stop to have an emotional moment. The plot kept a good pace and kept pulling me in at every turn. Lily falls a little bit into a second book, secret keeping, downward spiral, but it is not entirely irrational. I also didn't feel like the tension created between Lily and Rowan was created just for the sake of tension. It felt real and believable for the situation and the characters' pasts. The book is frustrating only in the sense that I feel like there is so much left to learn. The ending is a definite cliffhanger, but I feel like there are so many more secrets yet to be revieled involving so many different things. I want to know them all right now. I want to learn the intricacies of this new world because I feel like in the end, they are going to be spectacular. In the end, it's a good read that left me craving for more.

An instantly captivating, totally consuming, positively nail-biting and wildly entertaining read
Thrilling and action-packed and heartbreaking and suspenseful, FIRE WALKER is the electrifying and unputdownable second installment in Josephine Angelini’s Worldwalker Trilogy. It crosses worlds. It reveals secrets. It delivers surprises. It foreshadows things to come. It promises heartache, betrayal, devastation and loss. There are new allies, old enemies, deadlier threats and a shocking turn of events that will keep readers glued to the page and leave them anxious for the next installment. Now that Lily has found her way back home, she hopes to be able to return to the life she had before learning of New Salem and Lillian and Crucibles. Before she knew what it meant to world walk. Before she became responsible for so many lives. But returning home, near death, after her lengthy unexplained absence with a weak cover story for where she’s been won’t be easy. Not with a Special Agent looking for ways to trip her up. Not with her friends demanding answers she can’t give. Not with Lillian invading her thoughts, looking for ways to lure her back. And not with the Lady of Salem threatening everyone she loves. The story picks up right where things left off and doesn’t skip a beat. It keeps readers on edge with the precariousness of Lily’s health, the danger of her secrets being revealed, the threats to her safety because of Lillian’s ruthless pursuit. It keeps the pages turning as more of Lillian’s backstory is uncovered, as things begin to fall apart in Lily’s world, as a new adventure begins.Josephine Angelini does a fantastic job of advancing her story, of teasing readers with information about Lillian’s end game, of connecting both worlds, of keeping things interesting with a few unexpected twists, new travel companions, impossible choices, of building up to an ending that will leave readers dangling from a cliff. The author puts her characters - especially Lily - through the wringer. She gives them improbable odds of success. She does not promise them safety. And she is not afraid of saying goodbye to them.FIREWALKER is instantly captivating, totally consuming, positively nail-biting, wildly entertaining. It has savage creatures, vicious pursuers, clever and deadly adversaries, courageous allies, awesome abilities, a touch of romance, a whole heap of heartbreak, a lethal battle, an epic journey, a jaw-dropping surprise. It is an absolute must read for fans of the series and for readers who want to be fascinated and enthralled, fall in love with multiple worlds, and embark upon one heck of an amazing adventure.
