What Is the Statue of Liberty? (What Was?)

The book was good
The book talks about how this man loved the way the United States had their government working. He wanted to give them a gift so he held a donation and he built the statue with his group. Then he needed help making the statue not fall so he asked his friend Gustav Eiffel and he made a metal skeleton for the inside. So he made the skeleton. Once it was done they took it piece by piece and put it in containers and sent it to the U.S. The statue had been there since 1885.

History, informational, fun!
The book, What is the Statue of Liberty, is an excellent read. It tells the history and the importance of the Statue of Liberty in America. It is a great read for a third or fourth grader. The book series is a nonfiction read that children enjoy, but also teaches them. For us, this book added visiting the Statue of Liberty to our bucket list and we hope to one day go!

Learning about Lady Liberty
I bought this book for my daughter to do a book report. It was chalk full of information and pictures. Detailed enough for me to learn a lot about the gifting and making of the statue. This book gave side notes about the people involved and other great accomplishments they made, such as Eiffel creating the infrastructure of the statue and also creating the Eiffel tower. I felt this was a very well done book for kids without underestimating children's ability to absorb and learn. It pulled at my patriotic heartstrings and the shared desire and love for democracy and liberty.

This book provides an excellent and easy to understand history of the Statue of Liberty. The book goes into a lot of detail about the planning and execution of the building of the statue as well as providing the cultural backdrop of the people and times. Definitely a great book to read especially if you’re going to be visiting the statue.

Who is Series?
My 8 year old is really onto this series right now so grandparents purchased a lot of them for her birthday. She's read quite a few of them already and we have enjoyed hearing her "teach" us the new information.

What is a great book for elementary students?
I love the What Is? / Who Is? series. I bought this as a gift for my nephew before we went to the Statue of Liberty. This had more information than on the island!
