Basic Recorder Technique, Vol. 1: Soprano Alto

It’s hard to find beginning recorder books for adults that don’t focus the basics of reading music and theory. As someone with a lot of musical experience — just not with wind instruments — I purchased this book as soon as my instructor showed me a copy. It actually teaches the basics of recorder technique, such as articulation and intonation. I look forward to working through it. I’m also very pleased with Imagine This, the seller, who packed the book with a piece of cardboard so it arrived unscathed, as well as a nice little bookplate. I would certainly order from them again.

The subtitle "Soprano Alto" is misleading--each volume is applicable to one or the other, not both. Look at the picture of the cover to determine which applies. I ordered a book I and book II, and received an Alto book I, and a soprano book II. Doesn't work for me.

I'm an adult who wants to learn the C soprano recorder flute. This book explains concepts well. I've only began learning since Christmas, it's only been two weeks. I read music, I think you'd enjoy this book even if you couldn't read music. That's how well concepts are explained.

This may be more useful for a first time player but there are very few good melodies in it.

Use for self instruction, and it helps. use a mirror to check you hand position often so not to get bad habits

I like the way the lessons are presented in this book. Each lesson repeats some of the things learned in the lesson before so they build one upon the other. I am a beginner to the recorder and to reading music in general. Enjoying this book and finding it an excellent guide.

As an adult, I was looking for something with interesting music, not overly advanced but interesting that progresses . This book provides that in a well laid out format. Great book if you're think of picking back up the recorder or expanding your musical horizons.

Either if you are planning to play recorder just to enjoy music or if you are thinking about making music for a living, this is a must. It clearly explains the basics of the recorder technique. I'm sure you will enjoy your playing a lot more after studying this.
