Quiet Man: 1001 Dark Nights - A Dream Man Novella

Where is the storyline? There was no opposition, no challenges, no risk.
I love KA's books. I own them all. I eagerly await each new release. And after 50+ books, you know what to expect in general terms. There will always be a happily ever after, a somewhat scrappy woman, and a hunky guy. There will be some danger and there will be a resolution. KA has a knack for cutting the excess out of a scene and out of dialogue. That's all great.Problem here is she forgot to give us a STORY. The bad guy gets caught off screen. The hero doesn't catch him, the heroine doesn't confront him. And when he is killed, not only is it off screen, it has nothing to do with either the hero or the heroine. It's like fate is moving around them and they have no influence over events. Things happen, but they don't MAKE them happen.Second problem, no surprises. One of the things I love about KAs books are the put-the-book-down-and-laugh-out-loud surprises. She used to be bold and daring. Now it's like she's going through the motions. I put the book down several times, because I really didn't care what was going to happen next because I already knew what was going to happen next.In the writing process, there are chances for a writer to do the unexpected, to do the thing that puts the lead characters in jeopardy, or even better to put them in even MORE jeopardy, and in this book (and recent books), KA is skipping over each of those opportunities to just churn out the pages. She's taking the easy way out. She's watching the pitch go by.I write this with love and deep disappointment.I want to be delighted with a book. I want to be surprised. I want to keep turning pages to find out what happens next. In this book, I knew EXACTLY what was going to happen next, there was nothing delightful or surprising about anything. His PTSD wasn't handled. There was no confrontation between good guys and bad. There was no jeopardy. There were no risks. There was no chance they weren't going to get together. There was no opposition, no challenges, no risk. From start to finish it was PREDICTABLE. And for a writer of KA's caliber, that's unforgivable. If this didn't have KAs name on it, nobody would be giving it 5 stars.

Sexy. Hilarious. Fun.
Kristen Ashley's 1001 Dark Nights novella, Quiet Man, is a delicious little union of the Rock Chicks and the Dream Men. Mo is one of Hawk Delgado's commandos. Lottie Mac is Jet McAllister Chavez's little sister and a stripper at Smithie's. If none of that description made sense to you PICK UP THIS BOOK AND JOIN US because you need some KA in your life. If that description just set off all kinds of familiar bells for you, PICK UP THIS BOOK AND WELCOME BACK into this addictively awesome world only Kristen Ashley can keep building on. It feels so good to be back!I seriously loved this story. I love when KA takes characters we only thought we knew and thoroughly flashes out their personalities, their histories, their dreams. I only thought I knew Lottie and what I thought she was was a flashy, flamboyant exotic dancer who was just as wild and unpredictable as the Rock Chicks. Well what I got was a character who was much more relatable, more down to earth, more sweet than anything I assumed before. And her introduction to Mo, the course of events that follows, it all feels reminiscent of the way the Rock Chicks were claimed by the Hot Bunch but it's so not... it's different, refreshing, unique, but familiar all at once. I enjoyed it so so so much. I was surprised with the length of this novella. I expected something shorter and as I kept turning the pages and realized I had several hours to go, I couldn't have been more thrilled to stay in this world that I love so much for as long as I could. It's difficult to choose a favorite series by this author so nothing makes my heart explode more than when KA brings them together, having characters interact and fall in love and chase criminals side by side that normally don't. I love seeing all my favorites again, getting to see what they're up to in their lives now that's in been a few years since I read their stories. And it was so perfectly done in Quiet Man. Sometimes it can feel like too much, getting all these characters in the same room together, these large posses making cocktails and cheese boards, giving each other unsolicited romance advice. That wasn't the case here. Yes we see loads of old friends, but they come together for Lottie in the most perfectly authentic way and it gave me all the giddy feels. Mo and Lottie are an interesting pair and the course of events surrounding their introduction is both familiar and altogether NEW. Sure, it's insta love in the way Kristen Ashley always is but it feels like a slow burn the way they remain hands off for what feels like forever. Mo, the quiet giant, is nothing like what I thought he'd be and their story is a must. Just delicious. Sexy. Hilarious. Fun. Like I said before, if you're a true rock chick, a loyal KA reader, you're going to really love going back to Denver with this crazy crew. If you're still under that rock, come on out and read Quiet Man... it's the perfect introduction to the magic that is Kristen Ashley and you'll be desperate to dive into all of her unforgettable series as soon as you finish!

Boring!
I see Kristen is continuing her run of non-action books. There was no tension in this book and I kept reading, skipping lengthy sex scenes, looking for something to happen. It was all so soppy and I felt it was a bit cringy in the end. I vowed not to buy any more of this author’s books several books ago and this is not the one which changes my mind.

Another great read
When I got my kindle a lot of years ago now, like everyone I looked around for a great author and found Kristen Ashley. I always liked the Rock Chick and Dream Man books as they had an involved storyline and interesting characters and there’s now a world in which they inhabit and pop up in her stories one way or another. This is a great story, I loved it. It’s called a novella but in all honesty it’s as long as some authors normal books. Well done Kristen. This focuses on Lottie, one of the Rock Chicks, Jet’s sister. As a Dream Man story with a bit of Rock Chick thrown in, it of course involves drama, a dream man, Mo, and a few amusing moments. It also involves Smithie and the indomitable Tex. As always the characterisation is great. One of the original ‘Dream men’ wasn’t involved in it a teeny bit but it was fine anyway.I’m not giving any spoilers away so buy and enjoy.

Gutted I left this book so long
Quiet Man: Dream man by Kristen AshleyI put off reading this for ages but I’m gutted I did. Lottie jet sister is main character and while dancing for smithie develops a stalker. Smithie hires Hawk because they wanted to keep hot bunch and rock chicks out of it.Mo is a commando that works for Hawk and within seconds of meeting Lottie falls hard. They do a great job building sexual tension because Mo keeps it professional while protecting lottie.I love that all previous characters are involved across different book series. I’ve just got Mag and Evie/Evan book for Christmas so looking forward to that.

Short and sweet story!
I did enjoy the story of Lottie a stripper who works at Smithie's and Mo one of Hawk's band of merry men. I know this was only a novella so a short story but I did feel pertinent stuff was left out; why was Lottie threatened, what exactly was threatened, and what happened about her operation? It also ended really weird almost like the end of two books together and without the usual excellent KA epilogue. However whatever this lady writes I enjoy, and this was no exception, with a few previous characters from the Dream man series and the Rock Chicks. Most enjoyable but guess I'm back to re-reads of Ms Ashley now till next year.

Classic KA
This is Kristen Ashley at her best. Take a sassy beautiful woman with a problem and add a handsome, strong alpha male. Give us not only Hawk and his commandoes but a sprinkling of the hot guys. Pull in Lucas and Lawson and top it with Smithy and Tex. Drop in a little intro to Jet and Eddie’s hot guys to be, and a mention of Gwen and Chaos. The Rock Chicks were there too. Good storyline, hot romance and the promise of a new series. I loved Lottie and Mo, highly entertained by Mo’s sisters and Tex brought a tear to my eye by showing how much he loved Lottie. Do I recommend this boook? Yes Yes Yes.
