Best Of AW Tozer, Book 1
"Best of AW Tozer, Book 1" is a great compilation of Tozer's brief essays on a variety of topics and points, some of which include:1. God is best found by simplicity and guileless candor.2. Our strength and safety are found not in busy religious activity, but in silent waiting on God.3. Excellent points on the futility of pride, pretense, and artificiality.4. 6 factors of bad spiritual leadership.5. The Christian life is a life of contradictions with the world.6. Appropriate and inappropriate humor.7. The importance of simplicity and solitude.8. Our worth is determined by Christ's death for us.These are just a few of the gems you will mine! The book is around 250 pages and consists of several chapters around 2-4 pages each. The essays are collections of some of Tozer's books (Pursuit Of God, God Tells The Man Who Cares, Incredible Christian, etc.).Read and enjoy. Highly recommended!

Must read for all Christians
AW Tozer is a man of God who was self-taught (many times on his knees before the open Bible) and not seminary trained, because he could not afford to go to seminary. But his learning was through the Spirit of God and his diligence. And this book, "Best of AW Tozer (vol.1)" IS indeed great summary of Tozer's spirituality (Thanks to Warren Wiersbe who compiled and selected these chapters from Tozer's numerous books). In this book, Tozer teaches us in sum:1. What is essential Chrisitan life? He talks of believers' NEED for genuine love for Christ and His Return. For example Tozer accurately points out, "Another reason for the absence of real yearning for Christ' return is that Christians are so comfortable in this world that they have little desire to leave it... in these times of religion has become jolly good fun right here in this present world, and what's the hurry about heaven anyway?" (p.57). Such words challenge our heart of hearts. And there are more words like this in this book.2. What is proper knowledge of God? He does not mean merely doctrinal or theological side of it (though he emphasizes it elsewhere in the book), but also experiential walk with God and seeking Him. He said, "[holy men and women] want to taste, to touch with their hearts, to see with their inner eyes the wonder that is God... The evil habit of seeking 'God-and' effectively prevents us from finding God in full revelation. In the '-and' lies our great woe. If we omit the '-and,' we shall soon find God" (pp. 17,18). He is right. And there are more helpful, challenging, and edifying articles in the book. Those who read this book will not be disappointed, because Tozer redirects believer's focus onto God and God alone.

Great read!
Update:I don't know where or how, but I'm in love with this book. In fact, I want his entire anthology!I look forward to taking a nice, warm bath as the fall evenings are cooler here in Houston and read a few chapters from this book. I LOVE this. Now that I'm done with grad school, I have all the time in the world to read all the wonderful Christian non-fiction literature (please stay that way!). I need to get more books in my collection! It's nice to look back at issues that were present in the past and see how they have worsened today. For example, Chapter 5 The Erotic vs. Spiritual was an eye-opener. It helped me see how today many in the Slavic communities go to church in the same attire as one would go to a night club. It also helped me see theatrics in the church instead of the quiet workings of the Holy Spirit. I also love Chapter 6 To be Right we Must Think Right. And that's as far as I got.--------------------------------------At one end, I want a summary of Tozer's life works and at the same time, this version seems a bit too condensed. It takes a lot of critical reading to pick up on all the nuances. This is not one of those quick, easy reads that introduces the subject, fleshes it out and summarizes it in a neat, clean and easy to understand manner. I'm not a fan of the writing style as it unnecessarily complicates the message. It's not THAT complicated, but it's more complicated in it's delivery than it could be.

A.W. Tozer
Is there another human, living or dead, who writes or has written with what seems like the wisdom of Solomon? This book is a feast. A feast of humility, wisdom, common sense, depth, challenging conviction, and reverence. If you've read Tozer, I don't need to say a word. If you have not, you will love him. Then you will love me for telling you about him. Most importantly, you will love Jesus more than you thought possible. You will want to love Him.I have purchased this book several times for gifts. You will read it and re-read it. It has several chapters, all no more than two or three pages. The best devotional book ever, in my opinion.Give it a go.

Deep thinking and Soul searching required
Tozer, a self-taught theologian always makes me stop and think. I spend as much time thinking as I do reading, more accurately I spend time meditating over his writings. This is not a book that one can expect to sit down and read in an afternoon; it is one to be savored, reflected upon, thought about and returned to again and again.

Excellent compliationfor avid Tozer readers
For those familiar with Tozer they will know that he was a well studied man of the Bible. This book gives those who know his works a good variety of extracts from many of his writings. The reader gets a taste of his work through the various topics contained within this book. For those who are not so familiar with Tozers writings, this is equally a good start because it provides the reader with a critical analysis of many problems within the church today - and although the writings are dated, as with all biblical literature, it can be applied today.

Tozer deserves no less. Short, to the point ...
Tozer deserves no less. Short, to the point, spiritual land mines that are sure to disrupt the carnal Christian mindset and bring them back to the reality of what it means to be a follower of Christ.
