Update: I contacted Amazon again and this rep approved replacing just one light. This one was tight like the others so I am happy with that. I ran all of the lights completely down (that took several days and even then they had a faint glow!) and then set them in the sun for about 6 hours and they all performed OK. I then charged them overnight with electricity and they are very bright. Overall I am pleased with the purchase. Not as bright as a Luci but they're also half the price. I'm giving them 4 stars. I may update when we get back from Honduras where the real test will be.1st Review:I was excited to buy these for an upcoming mission trip to Honduras. Unfortunately one of the lamps had a defective lid that dangles open about 1/3" and is very loose; I doubt it will last too long. When I contacted Amazon they offered 3 options: 1. Return all 4 2. Accept a 30% discount and keep the broken one 3. Purchase a single lamp and pay the difference. None of those were what I wanted; I just wanted the one defective unit replaced.The other 3 appear OK and were all tight-fitting. I plugged my phone in and the charge indicator came on showing it was taking a charge. I plugged them into the wall and they are charging the battery. I'm going to leave them open and on so I can drain the batteries to ensure they will all charge in sunlight. I wish there was an on/off switch as the charge indicator stays on all the time (see 2nd photo). I guess this is to show whether the battery is charged or not but it's annoying.All in all I'm satisfied so far; I will update this review if I hear back from the company about my request to have the defective lantern replaced.

When i received i opened and put out on a very overcast day, and were out for about 3hrs. I then took one in and plugged one in to the outlet to see if they would charge there. The charge light never goes out so I am not sure if they are fully charged or not but then I did a test. I opened them up at 7pm and it is now 2 am the following day meaning they are lighting up for over 31 hours straight. Its super impressive for how little I had them charaging. They are both still up and running and about the same brightness. They are a bit more dim then at full power but you can still us them and light your way in the dark. These make great gifts or for emergency back ups in storms or other times power fails.

After reviewing all the good/bad reviews, I decided to give them a try..[I did drop a note in the hurricane kit NOT to plug them into the household electric!]. The ad says it is "military" grade plastic, as the pics show, they are not made to any level of military specs. They are constructed of that hard brittle plastic, the bottom battery cover will not take much fiddling before the retainer clip snaps.. But, they weren't bought to use for football stand-ins , so those things aren't really critical.. they produce a decent light when the worse happens. I placed them in the patio door for a day to charge them, but they did have a decent charge at arrival.. All of the 4 in my order, worked correctly, charged via the solar panel, and extended firmly but easily. As a few people have stated electrical problems I won't be plugging them into the 120v service. Decent buy should the price stay around the $33 dollar range, any higher, look for the product under a different name..cheaper price..

4 pack at a reasonable price. Lightweight with several charging options and/or batteries. Just 1 lights up the entire room and comfortably bright. I love the “pull top” design, no messing around with a push button.

Got these to use at our hunting cabin, reasonably priced for 4 of these. Opened them up and they started charging and working right out of the boxs. I have it 4 stars because these are not water proof, not that I was buying them for that purpose, but they are not water proof. The bottom where you put the batteries has no water proofing anything, and the overall housing is cheap feeling. Over all what I need them for is fine and I'm ok with the price I purchased them for.

I am buying-testing solar lanterns for power outages ... different brands and designs.I like this product. It is simple and inexpensive. I guess we’ll see how they hold up (battery life).These are bright enough for emergency home use, several hours of run time from a full solar charge. Red LED come on if they are solar charging. 110V charger is optional and included. Possible could be USB charged with a male-male USB cable. Not sure.And they are simple. Push the top all they way down and OFF. No modes. On or off. Partway down and one can subdue the light to “dim”.So said, simple but sporty yet efficient. For the low cost, I’ call them throwaways. Give them a year and we’ll see wh they hold up.

I have bought some of these before... I bought the other round ones they fell apart. I still have my original of this and it still works 5 years later ....can't say they are what they used to be but hey Sony used to be top shelf now its trash
